MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins open training camp Wednesday with six players — including five potential starters — on the physically unable to perform list.
Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and linebacker David Long Jr. were both last-minute additions to the PUP list after report-day medical evaluations revealed that they will not be able to practice on Wednesday.
Miami Dolphins Injury Update Ahead of Training Camp
Beckham and Long join three other big names on PUP: Linebackers Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, and guard Isaiah Wynn. Backup edge defender Cameron Goode also begins camp with that designation.
All six will be out until they can pass physicals. They can come off PUP at any time during training camp, but if they remain on the list after final cuts, they will be forced to sit out at least the first four games.
Of that sextet, Beckham — who has a long injury history that includes two torn ACLs — seems the most likely to be back soon. NFL Media reported Tuesday that Beckham “is working through some minor things” and will have a careful ramp-up before the Dolphins put him on the practice field.

Chubb (knee), Phillips (Achilles), Goode (knee), and Wynn (quad) all suffered significant season-ending injuries in 2023. It’s not immediately clear what is bothering Long.
The Dolphins expect all six available at some point this year.
That’s not the case for rookie receiver Tahj Washington, a seventh-round pick who suffered an unspecified season-ending injury during spring ball. The Dolphins placed him on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday.
That news certainly tightens the competition for the fourth, fifth, and sixth wide receiver jobs (assuming the Dolphins keep that many).
Candidates for those spots include Braxton Berrios, River Cracraft, Erik Ezukanma, and Malik Washington.
The Dolphins added another name to the mix on Tuesday by signing free agent Kyric McGowan, a former Washington Commanders wideout who went undrafted out of college and has zero NFL catches.
The Dolphins made two other roster moves ahead of camp: Running back Salvon Ahmed and safety Mark Perry are both expected to practice Wednesday after being activated off the non-football injury list.
