Not afraid of trading for or away draft picks, the Miami Dolphins pulled off another blockbuster trade incorporating 2022 NFL Draft picks by acquiring WR Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, after sending away three picks in this year’s draft, where do the Dolphins stand in April’s event, and what positions can they look to draft?

The Dolphins have been busy with their draft picks for the 2022 NFL Draft. Miami, famously, was part of the trade that allowed the San Francisco 49ers to trade up to pick No. 3 and select QB Trey Lance. The Dolphins then utilized their newly acquired picks to trade with the Philadelphia Eagles and select WR Jaylen Waddle.
Now, Waddle has a new wide receiver partner in Hill as the Dolphins sent a total of five picks to acquire the Pro Bowl receiver. In total, Miami sent three picks in 2022 and two in 2023 for Hill. The picks for Hill were a first-rounder (No. 29), a second-rounder (No. 50), and a fourth-rounder (No. 121) in the 2022 NFL Draft, as well as fourth- and sixth-round selections in 2023.
While they’ve added talent at the wide receiver position, the Dolphins also traded veteran pass catcher DeVante Parker to the division rival New England Patriots. Miami sent Parker and their 2022 fifth-round pick (No. 158) to their AFC East foe in exchange for a 2023 third-round selection.
Miami Dolphins 2022 NFL Draft team needs
The Dolphins needed help on the offensive line this offseason, routinely penciled in as a likely team to select any number of linemen with the 29th pick. However, with that gone, their offensive line upgrades may have come via free agency alone. At the current moment, the Dolphins’ most pressing needs still fall on the line but also come from the defense.
While they now don’t have wide receiver as a need, running back certainly fills that void. Securing upgrades at center, EDGE, and linebacker are among their most pressing needs. Given the acquisition of Hill, here are Miami’s top draft needs heading into the 2022 NFL Draft:
- Offensive Tackle
- Center
- Linebacker
- Edge Defender
- Running Back
