Miami Dolphins Build Out Back End of Roster as Free Agency Begins

    Published on

Add two more names to the Miami Dolphins' defensive depth chart: defensive back Siran Neal and defensive tackle Neville Gallimore.

There were no fireworks for the Miami Dolphins in the early hours of the league new year, but that doesn’t mean they were unproductive.

They announced one signing and reportedly agreed on terms for a second with two players that should help the back half of the roster.

Miami Dolphins Add Siran Neal, Neville Gallimore

First, the official move: They signed ex-Bills defensive back Siran Neal, who is a capable backup nickel cornerback as well as an excellent special-teams contributor.

Neal, 29, appeared in 97 games with the Buffalo Bills between 2018 and 2023, a productive run ended when the Bills cut him in a salary-dumping purge last week.

Neal has 53 career special-teams tackles to go along with 62 tackles, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries on defense.

Neal joins longtime teammate Jordan Poyer in South Florida. Poyer on late Tuesday agreed to a one-year deal reportedly worth $2 million.

Those two moves preceded an agreement in principle with ex-Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Neville Gallimore, which NFL Network was first to report.

Gallimore helps address the Dolphins’ biggest need — the defensive line — but he should not be seen as a savior.

He’s a rotational piece who will likely fill the role last held by Raekwon Davis, who agreed to a two-year, $14 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday.

Gallimore, a native of Ottawa, Canada, was drafted by both the NFL and CFL out of Oklahoma and has four sacks and 14 starts in four NFL seasons.

With Davis and Christian Wilkins both gone, the Dolphins are probably not done at the position.

They still likely need at least two NFL-caliber defensive linemen along with at least one starting defensive backfield player to fill all of their many needs on defense.
