‘Would Drop Down to That 3rd Spot’ – Mel Kiper Makes Shocking Prediction for Shedeur Sanders Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

ESPN NFL Draft insider Mel Kiper believes that Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders will drop to No. 3 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper believes that Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders will be the No. 3 overall pick this year. While appearing on the popular sports show “Get Up,” Kiper revealed what he thinks the top three picks will look like. In his ranking, Sanders was chosen behind Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward and fellow Buffaloes teammate Travis Hunter.

Though No. 3 overall is by no means a significant slip in the rankings, there had been some expectation and belief that Sanders may be selected No. 1 overall this April. Though that is still a possibility, and Kiper did outline how he thought Sanders was the best quarterback available, his recent discussion does outline how the Buffaloes’ QB is far from a guarantee to go No. 1 overall.

What Did Mel Kiper Say About Shedeur Sanders?

Kiper outlined how Sanders has dropped to the No. 3 spot in his recent rankings.

“Shedeur Sanders would drop down to that third spot,” he detailed. Kiper continued by explaining what Sanders could bring to the New York Giants if drafted by the organization.

“He’s surgical in the way he goes about his business. He completes a high percentage of his passes. He’s a guy that is certainly super tough in that pocket. Great instincts and awareness as well,” Kiper added.

In many ways, Sanders being drafted by the Giants does make sense for both parties. For the Giants, they could be getting the long-term solution at quarterback they have been looking for since the retirement of Eli Manning.

From Sanders’ perspective, he would be joining a dynamic offense that already has stars in wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.

Sanders’ PFN 2025 NFL Draft Projection

Despite Kiper’s recent statements, Sanders was selected No. 1 overall by the Tennessee Titans in Pro Football Network’s recent 7-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft.

“The Titans are in an interesting spot. Brian Callahan clearly needs a new name under center for his offense. His relationship with Will Levis is tumultuous at best, and he should have more than enough security to have Sanders develop for a year or two.

“Sanders isn’t a finished product. He’s the most accurate quarterback in the class by a significant margin, and he’s able to work within an NFL timeline, considering he’s survived poor protection in college throughout his career. His physical ceiling is lower than Cam Ward’s, but the same clear frustrations Callahan has with Levis will be present with Ward, who is, by any definition, an old-school gunslinger.”
