The quarterback situation for the New York Giants is getting a bit complicated. With the third pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, many assumed they would be in full rebuild mode, looking for a franchise quarterback, especially after the disaster that was the Daniel Jones-Saquon Barkley situation.
Instead, this offseason has been filled with rumors about Matthew Stafford and, more recently, Aaron Rodgers. While Stafford is staying in Los Angeles and Rodgers is no lock to land in New York, draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. believes the Giants should look to the draft, and he has his eye on Shedeur Sanders.

Mel Kiper Jr. Breaks Down Shedeur Sanders’ Fit With New York Giants
Kiper has long been one of the most trusted voices in the NFL Draft world. Speaking on “Get Up,” he explained why he sees Sanders as the right fit for the Giants.
“That’s a great fit, Greeny [Mike Greenberg]. I think the pressure, the expectations, the big stage, the bright lights, he’s dealt with all of that,” Kiper said. “That’s Shedeur Sanders. That’s who he is, that’s what he’s all about. At Jackson State, he was phenomenal. At Colorado, he was outstanding.”
While Kiper acknowledged some concerns, he made it clear that Sanders’ strengths outweigh them.
“Yes, he had too many sacks. But guess what? Over those two years, he completed 72% of his passes,” Kiper said. “He never had a game less than 60% completion percentage.”

That came despite playing behind a struggling offensive line that kept him under constant pressure. Even so, his efficiency in both accuracy and decision-making stood out to Kiper.
“He still lit it up, he managed the game, and he won this past year. So for Shedeur Sanders, I think he’s a perfect fit.”
The numbers back it up: 4,134 passing yards and 37 touchdowns on an impressive 74% completion percentage in 2024.
Kiper also made it clear that he believes Sanders gives the Giants a real chance to compete in the NFC East against Philadelphia Eagles QB and Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history and the Dallas Cowboys’ leader Dak Prescott, and Washington Commanders signal caller Jayden Daniels, who just had one of the best rookie QB seasons ever.
In line with Kiper’s take, PFSN’s latest seven-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft also has the Giants selecting Sanders. While not as high on him as Kiper, Jacob Infante still sees plenty of upside.
“A smart, accurate quarterback who improved consistently in college, Shedeur Sanders has the tools to start in the NFL,” Infante said. “The Giants have some pieces in place for him to work with, but when you get a shot at a potential franchise quarterback, you don’t pass it up.”
