Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has been in the news a lot over the past few months. He had a lot of success with the Buffaloes, helping them have their best season in years. Additionally, he helped produce a Heisman Trophy winner in Travis Hunter. However, now there are rumors that he could become an NFL head coach — Nick Wright is not sure if that makes sense.
Nick Wright Talks About Why He Thinks Deion Sanders Might Not Be a Great NFL Head Coach
Wright appeared on “First Things First” on Fox on Tuesday. On the show, he talked about where quarterback Shedeur Sanders will go in the draft and if the team that drafts him could also hire Deion Sanders as their head coach. Wright discussed some concerns he would have about bringing in Coach Prime to coach in the NFL. He believes what makes him great as a college coach might not work in the NFL.
“I don’t know that I believe in Shedeur as a top-five pick. I’m not sure about that. I think there’s real pluses and minuses. And I don’t know if what makes Deion so special as a college coach would work in the pros. There’s not really recruiting like there is in college. It’s more about how much money you pay, which to a degree is true in college now too.”
However, Wright admitted that while he has doubts about how much Deion Sanders’ coaching style would transition to the NFL, he would be nervous as a Chiefs fan if it happens with the Las Vegas Raiders.
“As a Chiefs fan, I wouldn’t love it.”

“As a Chiefs fan, I wouldn’t love it. I’d much rather they hire Liam Coen and draft the best tackle on the board. So, I think it would be a big swing and they have to take big swings.”
It will be interesting to see what happens with Shedeur Sanders and the NFL Draft.
Although there are rumors that Coach Prime could be hired by the Raiders if they pick Shedeur (and Shilo), they are not in position to draft him right now. Las Vegas owns the sixth overall pick, and Shedeur is unlikely to be available at that point.
As a result, if the Raiders want to pick Shedeur and hire Deion, they will need to trade up. As things stand, it is far more likely that Shedeur is drafted by the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, or New York Giants.
