Bowl games are often hosted in bigger stadiums than college football has to offer. The Orange Bowl will do just that as it is set to be hosted at Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the Miami Dolphins. On Thursday, “The Pat McAfee Show” was hosted at the stadium along with several guests. On the show, a New England Patriots fan/media personality took a cheeky dig at Miami, calling their home stadium “Soft Rock Stadium.”
Miami Dolphins’ Home Stadium Gets Sarcastically Renamed
With the Orange Bowl set to be hosted at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday, many media members in the football world are in Miami to cover the game. Pat McAfee brought his crew down, and one member he had on his show is a New England Patriots fan. He proceeded to reimagine Miami’s home stadium and what it should be called.
“No hoody. I felt like as a New England guy to come down to soft rock stadium to cement… You heard me. A lot has been coming out, I’m sure it’ll come up at some point. This isn’t a hard rock stadium, this is a very soft rock stadium.”
The Orange Bowl Is the Only Playoff Game That Will Take Place at Hard Rock Stadium This Season
The Orange Bowl will take place on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Penn State Nittany Lions will compete, and the winner of the game will advance to the National Championship. It is the only playoff game that will be held at Hard Rock Stadium this season.
The Miami Dolphins failed to qualify for the NFL playoffs. They had an 8-9 record this season and failed to make the playoffs after losing their final game of the regular season 32-20 to the New York Jets.
Entering the final week of the NFL regular season, the Dolphins had a chance to make the playoffs, but they needed to beat the Jets. It would not have been possible without that win.
However, based on other results, they would not have qualified even if they had won. They needed the Denver Broncos to lose their final regular-season game, and instead, they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 38-0.
This is the first time the Dolphins have missed the playoffs since the 2021 season. They lost in the Wild Card round in both 2022 and 2023.
