Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, recently opened up about her personal struggles and deep appreciation for her husband during an emotional episode of her podcast, The Morning After.
Married for nine years, Kelly admitted that she sometimes takes her $160 million husband for granted despite his love and support for them and the life he has provided.
Kelly Stafford Confesses on Taking Matthew Stafford for Granted
In a heartfelt segment, Kelly reflected on the New Year as an opportunity to improve her approach to their marriage.
“I take Matthew for granted a lot,” she confessed. “This new year, I want to do a better job of reminding him of how grateful I am to be married to a man who is incredible with our daughters, has a level head about most everything except for my mornings with my kids. I win that one because you’re not here.”
Kelly’s self-critique touched on how she sometimes fails to prioritize her husband’s needs when her own day doesn’t go as planned, adding,
“If I’m having a bad day, he is the first one coming over to me, hugging me, asking me. If he is having a bad day, I’m the one going, ‘Well, I had a bad day too’. And that’s not a marriage, and I need to be better with it.”
While Kelly’s candid admission struck a chord with listeners, it’s evident that she might be too hard on herself. After all, her actions and words suggest she deeply cherishes her husband. Just days earlier, she penned a moving Instagram note celebrating Matthew’s strength as the Rams clinched a playoff berth.
“PLAYOFF BOUND,” Kelly began, highlighting how the team’s turnaround from a 1-4 start spoke volumes of the quarterback’s amazing leadership.
“What an incredible example you set for our girls and all the kids watching you play… a true leader, toughest QB out there, and future Hall of Famer.”
Stafford’s Long NFL Journey and Career with Los Angeles
Matthew Stafford’s journey with the Rams started in 2021, but his impact on the team knows no bounds.
Signed to a $160 million four-year deal, he’s led his team with the skill and composure that earned him a Super Bowl ring in 2022. He reworked his contract prior to this season. Stafford’s adjustment included a $23.5 million guaranteed salary in 2024, a $12.5 million signing bonus, and a $4 million guaranteed March roster bonus. Essentially, a one-year, $40 million deal that Stafford signed while getting rid of many 2025 guarantees.
Graded a season-long C- with a score of 72.4 on PFN’s 2024 NFL QB Rankings, he has seen better professional days, but nothing trumps his consistency on the field and at home. Meanwhile, Kelly has managed to keep her calm and embrace openness and admiration for her husband despite facing harsh online criticism in the past.
The Rams are gearing up for the playoffs, and Kelly’s reflections suggest that she will stand right by Mathew’s side as they advance through the NFC playoff picture.
