Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly has a bone to pick with the NFL referees. She has seen football up and close for several years and has nailed down one of the most problematic areas of the game.
With technology permeating every aspect of life and football, Kelly has a gripe with refs unable to use technology for the benefit of the game in one area.
Matthew Stafford’s Wife Kelly Has a Gripe With the NFL Refereeing System
Kelly Stafford has several years of experience in football under her belt. Her brother Chad Hall is a former NFL wide receiver, and she has been with Matthew since their college days. And all this time, she has one issue with the refs, and she shared it on her podcast, The Morning After.

“Think about refs when they run the ball, it’s 4th-and-1 or 3rd-and-1, and they run the ball and it is inches, and these refs are marking it with their feet,” said Kelly. “[They] look at each other from across the sideline… you see them walk into where they think the ball is.”
Kelly added that there are too many guys piling on the ball and the refs cannot know the exact position of the ball. “They’re just straight-up guessing,” she added. “And I understand there’s no other way to do it, and they’re human. How the hell are they supposed to see that? I don’t know. It’s crazy.”
Recently Kelly has been vocal regarding her takes on football. She has even called out Cleveland Browns fans for their behavior.
Matthew Stafford Reveals Post-Retirement Plans to Wife Kelly
The Los Angeles Rams quarterback appeared on his wife’s podcast a couple of weeks ago. Kelly, the host, inquired about the 36-year-old’s plans concerning broadcasting or as a football analyst. “Yeah, I would love to,” declared Matthew.
“I think talking about the game and being in some version of that is appealing to me. Uh, wherever it is, but I do think staying involved in the game of football is something I want to do,” added the QB.
However, the two-time Pro Bowler revealed earlier this offseason that he would like to continue playing for another three to four seasons. He will welcome the Minnesota Vikings for the Week 8 battle on Thursday, with kickoff scheduled at 8:15 ET.
