Quarterback Deshaun Watson had been suffering from a bad run of form from Week 1 of the regular season, being sacked a record 33 times. However, the football world was shocked when a section of the Cleveland Browns fans started cheering after their QB’s injury.
Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly Stafford, took to Instagram to call out those fans. She wants a strict protocol against the fans who cheered at Watson’s injury.
Kelly Stafford Shares Anger at Deshaun Watson Situation
The Browns were on a four-game losing streak when they took to the field against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. During a carry, Watson went down and ruptured his right tendon. While the 29-year-old was on the ground, agonized by the pain, some of the Browns fans started cheering. This continued while a hurt Watson was carted off.
After the game, several players called out against this behavior from their fans in their home stadium. Regarding the situation, Cleveland’s third-string quarterback, Jameis Winston, made an emotional statement.
The emotional appeal touched Kelly Stafford as she took to her Instagram to share a part of Winston’s speech.
“Should try and find every fan that cheered and ban them for life. Makes my blood boil,” she captioned on her Instagram story.
What Did Jameis Winston Say About Watson?
After Watson’s injury and a hand injury that saw backup QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson leave the game, Winston wound up being on the field for a few snaps.
Winston managed to go 5 of 11 for 67 yards and a touchdown. As the Browns lost 28-14 and extended their losing streak to five, the fans’ reactions to Watson’s injury was the first thing on Winston’s mind.
“The way I was raised, I was taught to love, no matter the circumstances. Especially for people who do right by you,” Winston said.
“I’m grateful that I had a chance to serve Deshaun, but I am very upset with the reaction to a man that has had the world against him for the past four years.”
Watson has been ruled out for the entire season, and Browns fans will have all of their hopes pinned on Winston to guide them this season.
