Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has had an impressive NFL record since joining in 2019 and has been perfect in December. The impressive December win streak has meant the Packers have consistently been in the playoff race, and if the run continues, they could be in playoff contention again in 2023.
Matt LaFleur’s December Win Streak
The Packers have dominated in December since LaFleur became head coach and are currently on a 16-game win streak in December games. The streak has helped them make the playoffs in three of the four seasons that LaFluer has been in charge.
In fact, LaFleur has never lost a game in December as an NFL head coach, with the record stretching back to his first year in Green Bay in 2019.
The streak is currently the second-longest in December in NFL history, with the San Diego Chargers winning 18 straight between 2006 and 2009. Here is a look back at each of the last 16 wins the Packers have had in December.
- Dec. 3, 2023: Chiefs W, 27-19
- Dec. 25, 2022: Dolphins W, 26-20
- Dec. 19, 2022: Rams W, 24-12
- Dec. 4, 2022: Bears W, 28-19
- Dec. 25, 2021: Browns W, 24-22
- Dec. 19, 2021: Ravens W, 31-30
- Dec. 12, 2021: Bears W, 45-30
- Dec. 27, 2020: Titans W, 40-14
- Dec. 19, 2020: Panthers W, 24-16
- Dec. 13, 2020: Lions W, 31-24
- Dec. 6, 2020: Eagles W, 30-16
- Dec. 29, 2019: Lions W, 23-20
- Dec. 23, 2019: Vikings W, 23-10
- Dec. 15, 2019: Bears W, 21-13
- Dec. 8, 2019: Commanders W, 20-15
- Dec. 1, 2019: Giants W, 31-13
Green Bay is two games away from equaling that record, and they have a good chance of breaking it.
Jordan Love’s Play Is a Huge Factor in 2023
With QB Jordan Love playing his best football as the starter in Green Bay, LaFleur will be confident. If their statement win over the Chiefs in Week 13 is anything to go by, they stand a chance.

Next up for the Packers, they visit the Giants before playing the Buccaneers at Lambeau Field. They then visit the Panthers on Christmas Eve before finishing their December games in Minnesota on New Year’s Eve. All are games that the Packers feel they should win.
On whether he feels confident, LaFleur told the media, “As soon as you start feeling yourself and you feel like you’ve arrived, this league has a way of knocking you off. And the bottom line is, we’re a .500 football team. We’re 6-6 right now. We’ve clawed out of a tough spot, but every week, you’ve got to bring your ‘A’ game.”
One factor in the streak is home-field advantage. Lambeau Field is notoriously a difficult place to visit; when the weather turns in the winter months, it becomes even more challenging.
The freezing temperatures and raucous crowd play their part in the Packers being so successful at Lambeau Field, as do having Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre at quarterback.
History proves it. While LaFleur’s streak is impressive, other Packers head coaches have also had success in December. Between 2006 and 2017, former head coach Mike McCarthy had a 35-13 record in December, with a 22-3 record when playing in Green Bay.
The 2023 Packers head into their Monday Night Football fixture on the road to the Giants with a 6-6 record, having turned their season around after starting 2-5.
Green Bay is currently on a four-game winning streak, and if LaFleur is to continue his winning December record, they will be looking to hunt down the Detroit Lions at the top of the NFC North.
