Marvin Jones Jr. Waiver Wire Week 6: Should You Add Him To Play the Colts?

Should fantasy football managers add Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. or Zay Jones off the waiver wire to play against the Colts in Week 6?

The 2022 fantasy football season has featured unlikely breakout performers and devastating injuries. We’re on top of the latest developments to make sure you’re in the best position to backfill roster spots and replace slumping playmakers. You don’t need to be in a prime position to win a Week 6 waiver wire claim to get a helpful boost.

We’re paying close attention to the top names on the waiver wire all season long. Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Marvin Jones Jr. has become a solid fantasy option for managers when Zay Jones has a smaller role. We’ll dive into the Jones’ Week 6 waiver wire value against the Indianapolis Colts.

Should You Add Marvin Jones Jr. From the Waiver Wire for Week 6?

Available in 95% of Yahoo leagues and 70% of ESPN leagues, Marvin Jones is just now starting to catch on in deeper leagues. He’s third in targets in an offense ranking 14th in pass attempts and 15th in points scored. There’s value for a contested-catch option playing alongside Trevor Lawrence.

I thought Jones would be in for a big role that could lead to a flurry of red-zone scores entering 2022. He’s excellent along the sidelines or fighting through contact to come down with difficult catches. Jones has been a good player but hasn’t seen the expected scoring opportunities as the young Jaguars continue to struggle in the red zone.

However, coming off a Week 5 with a season-high 11 targets, seven catches, and 104 yards, Jones is blossoming before us.

Lawrence and Jones were a nice combination last year, producing 832 yards and four scores. But this year has been different as head coach Doug Pederson has prioritized Zay Jones and Christian Kirk more often.

This past week could serve as a bit of a springboard for the elder Jones, but Zay is expected to return this week against the Colts. There’s room for both players on the field for Jacksonville, but Lawrence hasn’t been able to keep all of the receiving mouths full at the same time. That is a concern for those hoping for Marvin Jones to bring value right away.

As the WR52 and No. 123 overall player for Week 6 in our PFN expert PPR fantasy rankings, Marvin Jones is not an ideal start candidate despite his rapport with Lawrence and breakout last week. A big part of that is our skepticism he’ll be able to pick up right where he left off last week, and also the quality of his opponent.

The Colts may be a relative dumpster fire despite being 2-2-1, but they’re the NFL’s best defense in terms of fantasy points allowed to receivers. I like Lawrence, but he’s not nearly consistent enough to rely upon against a veteran defense that is forcing offenses to win in other ways.

Zay Jones’ return likely means Marvin will see fewer targets than the 11 he earned last week. Unless Marvin gets a touchdown, this isn’t an ideal spot to start the elder Jones.

Should You Add Zay Jones From the Waiver Wire for Week 6?

Zay Jones is rostered in more leagues than Marvin because he’s been peppered with more targets. But they’ve been lower quality, and Zay has little upside in the red zone. Still, he theoretically has more value because he’s more likely to line up in the slot and exploit weaknesses in Gus Bradley’s Cover 3 defense.

I wouldn’t want to start Zay Jones and would opt against rostering him if possible. At least Marvin has some touchdown potential, whereas Zay’s value is tied to a high volume of targets. This is a situation where I only want shares of James Robinson and Kirk from the Jaguars in my lineup.
