Who Will Sign Marquez Valdes-Scantling in Free Agency? Possible Landing Spots Include Saints, Eagles, and Chargers

After helping the Kansas City Chiefs to two consecutive Super Bowl wins, wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is still looking for a contract offer.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling has had an up-and-down career since being drafted 174th in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers.

At his best, Valdes-Scantling is a big receiver with elite speed. At his worst, he has dropped wide-open passes that could have helped his team win a game. However, if you ask Kansas City Chiefs fans, they would be appreciative of his monster plays in the playoffs.

His best season was in Green Bay in 2018, when he finished with 690 yards and six touchdowns. He has played the last two seasons with the Chiefs, finishing with 63 catches for 1,002 yards and two touchdowns.

In the postseason for Kansas City, though, he has 15 catches for 250 yards and three touchdowns.

He was recently cut by the Chiefs in a salary cap-saving move.

Here’s a look at which NFL teams could be fits for Valdes-Scantling.

There are still a lot of good safeties out there, as the entire defensive secondary has some really good players available. There are plenty of teams that need a safety with experience like Simmons.

Saints Give Derek Carr Big-Play Threat

The New Orleans Saints’ offense last year was wildly inconsistent, with the unit struggling to hit big plays consistently. If they scored, they had to sustain drives by dinking and dunking their way down the field.

While he has been inconsistent at times, Valdez-Scantling would be an intriguing big-play threat. In a dome, having a receiver like the former Chiefs receiver would make a ton of sense. He isn’t going to be a No. 1 receiver, but if you have him as your No. 3 receiver, he can do some damage.

Eagles Get Big-Play Potential To Pair With Dynamic WR Duo

Philadelphia has the opportunity to be as good and explosive as any offense in the NFL next season. With A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, the Eagles may have the best receiver duo in the entire league.

At the start of this free agency, the Eagles signed running back Saquon Barkley from the New York Giants, giving the team an elite running back. Those three alone will make the Eagles’ offense nearly impossible to stop.

Adding a guy like Valdes-Scantling to that would give the team another home run threat. He would see a lot of 1-on-1 matchups, and he could be a guy with six or more touchdowns in that offense.

Former AFC West Rival Gets WR Help After Tough Free Agency

The Los Angeles Chargers had to make some difficult decisions at the start of this free agency. The team was in a brutal cap situation and had to get rid of some of its best players. Mike Williams was released, while Keenan Allen was traded to the Chicago Bears.

With a superstar quarterback in Justin Herbert, the Chargers will want to add some receivers with big-play potential.

Jim Harbaugh is now the man running the show, and he loves to play through the play-action game. Valdes-Scantling would be just the type of receiver who could give Herbet shot-play potential.
