Stars are once again aligning between the Dallas Cowboys and Deion Sanders. The team has decided to move on from head coach Mike McCarthy, whose contract expired last week. Owner Jerry Jones confirmed the same on Monday, Jan. 13, while also stating that they have begun their search for a new head coach.
And guess who headlines the rumors? Coach Prime, who is currently the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes.
Many believe Coach Prime won’t like coaching Colorado after his sons depart for the NFL. Though Sanders continues to state that there is no interest in him moving to the professional league, the speculations connecting him to his former team never go old.
Former Cowboys Star Remarks About Coach Prime’s Fit Alongside Jerry Jones, Cowboys
If it happens, this would be an intriguing fit. Both Coach Prime and Jones like to do things their way. So, if both come together, former Cowboys star Marcus Spears discussed how the potential chemistry between the two will work.
Spears, who played eight of his nine seasons with the Cowboys, appeared on Monday’s episode of “SportsCenter.” The host asked candidates who could succeed McCarthy. After naming several potential candidates, Spears mentioned Coach Prime and highlighted how he could be a big plus for the program if available.
“I’m super interested to see if Deion Sanders — Prime Time — is going to get some interest in this job as well,” the former Cowboys player said. “We know Jerry loves the flash. We know he loves to bring the attention, and no one would do that more than Prime.
“I wonder if Prime would leave Colorado and take that on. And here’s the caveat about Prime, Matt: As much as you and I have talked over the years about Jerry and him not relinquishing power or control, Prime may be one guy who can at least go up to the office and say, ‘Jerry, let’s try it my way’ because of the respect I think Jerry has for Deion Sanders. So it’s going to be super interesting.”

Marcus Spears Lists Candidates for Jerry Jones’ Cowboys HC Role
Several candidates in the coaching market may receive a chance to interview with Jones. During the same interaction, Spears mentioned some names, linking them with their attributes.
“Philosophically, do you want an offensive mind?” Spears said. “You have to wait now on Ben Johnson to try to have an interview with him because you waited so long and played the Mike McCarthy thing up until the end. Typical Cowboys.”
Spears highlighted Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as another potential candidate, citing his leadership qualities.
“Aaron Glenn, I think, would be a really good fit in Dallas as a guy that can really take over a locker room as a former player and kind of disassociate that part of it with what goes on on the outside,” he said.
Another intriguing option could be a familiar face: Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
“I wouldn’t be shocked if they revisit Kellen Moore now that he’s had an opportunity to go other places and prove that he runs a high-level offense,” Spears added.
Jones has no shortage of intriguing options should he decide to shake up the Cowboys’ coaching staff. The question remains: which direction will he choose?
