As you prepare to make your bets for the 2023 NFL season, here is a Los Angeles Chargers betting preview with their futures odds, best bets, and more!

The Los Angeles Chargers have increased their win total in consecutive seasons, and doing so again in 2023 would likely mean a divisional title. Justin Herbert leads a potent offense, allowing this team to win 10 games despite a historically poor run defense. Can they unseat the Chiefs? Is winning the AFC possible? Let’s dive into the betting odds to find out.

    Los Angeles Chargers Offense

Justin Herbert enters his fourth season as the man under center for the Bolts, and the team gave him another weapon by drafting Quentin Johnston 21st overall in April.

There was some concern about the future of do-everything Austin Ekeler, but — happy or not — he’s back, giving this team a level of versatility that few others have. Los Angeles was the second-pass-heaviest team a season ago and could well wear that crown in 2023 with Tom Brady no longer leading a pass-happy Buccaneers squad.

    Los Angeles Chargers Defense

The Chargers coughed up a league-high 5.4 yards per carry last season, a flaw that is capable of undoing all the good that the offense is capable of. On the bright side, they were an above-average unit in terms of both third down and red-zone defense, so there is hope!

Leading tackler Drue Tranquill is now in Kansas City, leaving a void at the linebacker position that this team will need to fill if they want to be a true contender.

    One Betting Trend To Know

The Chargers and Bengals are the only two teams with a perfect ATS record over the past two seasons when getting more than three points, according to Inside Edge.

Best Bet for the Chargers in 2023

Soppe: Let’s take a look at the players with the highest projected passing yardage totals for 2023.

And then there’s Herbert’s situation in Los Angeles, where Austin Ekeler tied for fifth among all players in receptions last season (107). In this era of pass-heavy offenses, there are a dozen quarterbacks that are capable of big games, but how many of the elite options can rack up “easy” passing yards the way Herbert can by way of Ekeler?

To be the league’s leading passer (+650), I want to back a player with a nice weekly floor to complement the video-game upside. Ekeler gives Herbert the former, and the tools are more in place for the latter. Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are familiar weapons that are proven NFL options with rookie WR Johnston providing insurance should either get dinged up like they did last season.

No team has played more close games in the Herbert era than the Bolts, and that is going to mean they are throwing for all four quarters most weeks. If this is a tight race down the stretch, Herbert is going to be asked to put this team on his shoulders against the Bills (Week 16) and Chiefs (Week 18), situations that could have him finishing strong and cashing this bet!
