From the olden days of the Houston Oilers to the present-day Tennessee Titans, how has the second-oldest franchise in the AFC South fared with its first-round picks in the NFL Draft? Though the Titans don’t have a Super Bowl title to show for their success, they do have a history of production in Round 1.
Tennessee Titans First-Round Draft Picks Throughout History
The Titans’ history of first-round NFL Draft picks is a tale of two halves. From 1961 to 1997, the team was known as the Houston Oilers. And in that stretch, they selected five future Hall of Famers in Round 1, including three straight with their only three picks from 1978 to 1983.
The team moved to Tennessee in 1997 and then rebranded to become thee Titans in 1999. Across that span, they haven’t picked a future Hall of Famer, and their overall record in Round 1 has been spotty. Nevertheless, there’s hope that recent selections like Jeffery Simmons, Treylon Burks, and Peter Skoronski will help change the tide.
