The Minnesota Vikings were Super Bowl contenders in 2024 as they constructed a roster that was a top seed in the NFC, even with a flat playoff appearance. With a 14-3 record, the Vikings will have some tough decisions and negotiations based on their talent on expiring contracts this offseason.
Every team needs improvements in the offseason, even the Vikings with 14 wins a season ago. Coordinators want veterans who know their system. Also, tackles and coverage players are always in demand throughout the offseason. Expensive free agents and high draft picks are one way to fill holes on your roster. But remember, sometimes the best upgrade is replacing a below-average player with an average one through free agency.

Minnesota Vikings 2025 Cap Space and Players To Cut
Heading into the offseason, the Vikings’ salary cap looks healthy in 2025. Very healthy, even. Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will have $71,651,347 in cap space and will be ranked No. 15 in the available cap. Adofo-Mensah is heading into his fourth season as GM and will have some big decisions to make.
There is no need to cut anyone with over $70 million in cap space, but the Minnesota Vikings can explore a few options to open up space.
One option will be cutting tight end Josh Oliver. If the Vikings cut Oliver (2025 cap: $9,424,000), it would save them $5,152,000 as a pre-June 1 cut and $8,000,000 as a post-June 1 cut. Oliver finished the 2024 season with 22 catches for 258 yards and three touchdowns.
Another option would be cutting safety Josh Metellus (2025 cap: $7,375,000). If the Vikings cut Metellus, Minnesota can save $6,375,000 as a pre-June 1 cut. The Michigan prospect finished the 2024 season with 103 tackles (63 solo and 40 assists), two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Lastly, restructuring or extending lineman Brian O’Neill can be another option to open up cap room. O’Neill (2025 cap: $26,019,114) could save $8,122,500 with a conventional restructure or $12,996,000 by adding three void years or signing an extension.
