Each year, every NFL team makes its push to be the last club standing with a zero on the right side of the win-loss column. But establishing any win streak in a league that emphasizes parity and the ability to win on “any given Sunday” is a tough task.
Here, we’re taking a look at every season in history to see which units were the last undefeated NFL teams each year and which was the last of such teams to win the Super Bowl.
What Was the Last Remaining Undefeated NFL Team To Win a Super Bowl?
The last team to be the final club standing without a loss in the regular season and go on to win the Super Bowl was the Indianapolis Colts, who won nine straight contests to open the 2006 season before falling to the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 14-21.
That loss wouldn’t dampen the prospects of Indy’s season, however, as that Colts team would go on to finish with a 12-4 regular season record and nab the third seed in the AFC.
The 2006 Colts beat the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, and New England Patriots in the Wild Card, Divisional, and AFC Championship rounds of the payoffs, respectively.
In Super Bowl XLI (a game well known for Devin Hester’s opening kick-return TD), the Colts took down the Chicago Bears by a score of 29-17, netting the legendary QB-HC combo of Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy the Lombardi Trophy.
