Dan Campbell Tells Kevin O’Connell He Will See Him Again In Two Weeks

After the Lions dismantled the Vikings on Sunday night, Campbell approached Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell for their postgame handshake and the broadcast picked up him saying, “I’ll see you again in two weeks.”

If Minnesota wins its first playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams, the Vikings will travel to Detroit in two weeks to face the Lions for the third time this season.

With this win, the Lions improved to 15-2 and swept the season series with the Vikings. Detroit now has the NFC’s top seed and a first-round bye, while the Vikings are the No. 5 seed. Minnesota will face the Rams in Los Angeles on Monday night in the Wild Card Round.

This is the second time in franchise history that the Lions have earned a first-round bye — the last time was in 1991.

The Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs both finished with a record of 15-2. The Chiefs earned the first-round bye and home-field advantage in the AFC.

On Sunday night, Detroit was powered by running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who scored four touchdowns (three rushing and one receiving) and totaled 170 yards (139 rushing and 31 receiving). Gibbs finished the season with 20 touchdowns, leading the NFL and breaking Detroit’s franchise record.

The bye is much-needed for the Lions, as they have a plethora of players who need to rest due to nagging injuries. The Lions had two more defensive players go down with injuries on Sunday night: Terrion Arnold (foot) and Pat O’Conner (calf).

The Lions are already missing Carlton Davis, so that means Detroit will be without both starting cornerbacks if Arnold can’t play in the second round.

Still, PFN’s Playoff Predictor is a big fan of the Lions, ranking Detroit as the NFL’s best offense and 11th-best defense while giving them a 30.1% chance to win the Super Bowl — double the odds of the next-highest team.

As for Minnesota, they were the surprise team of this season. Entering the year, sportsbooks had the Vikings’ over/under set at 6.5 wins, so their 14 wins exceeded all expectations. Sam Darnold is the favorite to win the Comeback Player of the Year award.
