Lionel Messi Super Bowl Commerical: Legendary Soccer Player Lionel Messi Stars Alongside Dan Marino in Epic Super Bowl 58 Ad

How does Lionel Messi pass time when the keg kicks? Check out Michelob Ultra's commercial to see what the superstar does during the switch.

One of the more popular categories of commercials comes from beer and alcohol companies, and Super Bowl 58 is no exception. Michelob Ultra partnered with global soccer superstar Lionel Messi for his first Super Bowl commercial appearance.

While there may be a football game tonight, soccer will appear in the big game tonight. Here’s a look at Michelob Ultra’s new Super Bowl commercial.

What Does Lionel Messi Do While He Waits for a New Keg?

The commercial begins with a view of “Superior Beach” as people enjoy the nice weather and sun while passing a soccer ball back and forth. It then transitions to a bartender behind a beachside bar as Messi and two friends approach to order a pint, Michelob Ultra, of course.

While the first two glasses are poured perfectly and handed to his friends, the keg kicks while pouring the final pint for Messi. The bartender asks if he would like a different beer, to which Messi tells her he can wait for the new keg.

As the bartender runs to replace the keg, Messi and his friends turn around as the soccer ball is passed around before rolling to his feet. As he stops it with his foot, the other people on the beach turn and notice who he is. A smile comes to his face as he dribbles the ball towards the crowd, who’s ready to steal it from him, and the music starts.

Messi slices and dices the crowd on the beach with a copious amount of dribble moves, nutmegs, and fancy footwork as he plays keep away with the other beachgoers. He pops it up over umbrellas to keep them on their toes, then jukes out a dog.

As he dribbles, the camera pans to a cooler of Michelob Ultra cans, and a woman can be heard saying, “That’s Messi,” in a confused voice. Emmy award-winning actor Jason Sudeikis appears on screen and responds, “Oh, you mean Leo? We go way back.” Still dribbling,  we see the bartender running back with the keg but getting distracted by his moves.

Are Any Other Athletes in the Commercial?

He jukes a member of the crowd, breaking his ankles and sending him into a sand castle. Then, two separate crowds converge on him. Messi stops and gives the ball a dropkick to a boat off the coast. What boat is it? None other than “The Dan Marina” with Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino enjoying the day.

He catches the ball and throws it back to Messi, who’s on pace to score a makeshift goal. However, he’s stopped when the bartender calls his name with a full glass of Michelob Ultra ready to be enjoyed. He passes the ball to someone in the crowd, who scores and returns to enjoy the pints with his friends.

A playful commercial about keeping an active and social life was the perfect setting for the soccer star’s first Super Bowl commercial appearance.
