The Los Angeles Chargers faced a humiliating defeat against the Houston Texans on Saturday, Jan. 11. The 32-12 loss at NRG Stadium ended their season.
However, rookie Ladd McConkey made sure it was a night to remember for him. The wide receiver’s girlfriend Sydney Horne reminded fans he was the shining spot on the Chargers’ roster on Saturday.
Ladd McConkey’s Girlfriend Celebrates Chargers WR’s Record-Breaking Night
It was a gloomy outing for the Chargers in Texas as they couldn’t compete against Houston on either side of the ball. However, McConkey gave fans something to cheer about in the last quarter. He delivered an 86-yard catch-and-run score, the Chargers’ sole touchdown.
The 23-year-old ended with 197 yards on nine catches. In doing so, he broke the single-game receiving yards record in a playoff game by a rookie, previously held by Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua.
Despite their elimination, McConkey’s girlfriend celebrated McConkey’s successful individual performance. Horne reposted a graphic of McConkey highlighting his record-breaking game to her Instagram story. “Something to be proud of. I love you,” she captioned and tagged McConkey.
Earlier this season, McConkey broke another record. He set the franchise record for most receiving yards by a rookie with 1,149 yards on 82 catches with seven touchdowns.
Justin Herbert’s Failures Overshadowed McConkey’s Night
This record would’ve been far sweeter had the Chargers booked a place for themselves in the Divisional Round. However, Justin Herbert’s 43.8% passing rate with four interceptions paved the way for their elimination.
Herbert registered just three interceptions during the regular season, and after his horrific performance against the Texans, he is also a record holder. Herbert is now the first player in NFL history to have more interceptions in the playoffs than the regular season.

“I let the team down,” Herbert said after the game. ‘You can’t turn the ball over like that and expect to win. … I just have to be better.”
