Kyle Shanahan has developed quite a reputation around the NFL. Shanahan grew up in a football family, with his father Mike, traveling the college landscape as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator before settling down in Mile High as the Denver Broncos head coach.
Kyle Shanahan’s Career and Background
As many football families do, the Shanahan’s moved wherever their patriarch found a job, and for Mike, it ran the gambit from Arizona to Oklahoma to Illinois to Florida.
Shanahan’s life would be uprooted as they moved with their father, but Shanahan saw the trials and tribulations that come with a football career and followed the old man’s footsteps anyway.
Shanahan’s father was renowned as an offensive genius, able to construct an offense featuring a prolific running game and bootleg play-action passes.
Sound familiar? Shanahan took his father’s successful game plan and made it his own. Shanahan has been successful ever since he arrived in the NFL.

The younger Shanahan has become notorious for developing a run game that is virtually unstoppable while developing speedy running backs with a one-cut-and-go mentality.
Shanahan found running backs later in the NFL Draft, some undrafted rookie free agents, and made them into backs who contribute at the NFL level.
Shanahan’s system is breathtaking, but to win the big one, the San Francisco 49ers head coach, as well as the front office, recognize they need top-tier talent to defeat the Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts of the world.
The 49ers made the bold and controversial move to trade several draft picks for a running back, Christian McCaffrey, even when the league devalues the position.

"Each drink we had, the more we realized that we're going to get in trouble because our wives expected us back two hours ago, so I would love to have more opportunities like that.”

The move has paid off so far, and McCaffrey is the linchpin for one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL. The rushing attack is one of the most daunting in the league, and defenses can’t stack the box due to the 49er’s weaponry on the outside.

Few teams can match the firepower the 49ers have every week, with Brandon Aiyuk stretching the field vertically, George Kittle causing defensive mismatches in the intermediate, and Deebo Samuel carving up would-be defenders like a Swiss Army knife.
