Things change quickly in the NFL. Such is the case with the Las Vegas Raiders as they look to be adding Luke Getsy for their offensive coordinator job.

It has been a whirlwind of the last few days for the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s the season for hiring, and with things changing daily at this point, you can come to expect the unexpected when it comes to the NFL. Such is the case with the Raiders and their now-reported interest in Luke Getsy.

What has been a wild turn of events that once had Kliff Kingsbury as the offensive coordinator in Sin City, now has him pulling himself from contention for the role. That decision was made in part due to the fact he may be viewed as the lead candidate to be the Washington Commanders OC with newly hired head coach Dan Quinn now in charge.

That move has now set the table for former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to come in and potentially be the new target the franchise has locked into for the vacant role.

According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, “The Raiders are working on a deal to hire ex-Bears OC Luke Getsy as their new offensive coordinator. The highly-respected Getsy was in the mix for a bunch of OC jobs in this cycle.”

It has been reported that the final three for the Raiders’ offensive coordinator job came down to Kingsbury, Getsy, and Chip Kelly. With the former now taking himself out of the running, the Raiders quickly turn their attention to Getsy to be the man for the job.

Getsy Is Respected Within the NFL

The former Bears play-caller was relieved of his duties in Chicago following the 2023 season after another frustrating year that once again has the team picking early in the draft.

Despite that, some in NFL circles think highly of Getsy and believe he may not have been the problem with the Bears’ offense during his tenure. Chicago has long had a talent issue, and while this year showed a glimpse of progress, it may not have come together quickly enough for an organization that will have tough decisions to make this offseason.

Although he may not have been Las Vegas’ first choice for the job, it looks like some may be excited by the possible pairing. With the idea that the Raiders will look to surround their offense with more talent in 2024, there is a belief that with the right pieces in place, Getsy would be able to get the most out of the unit in Sin City.
