Fantasy Injury Update: Khalil Herbert, Kyler Murray, and Justin Fields Impacting Week 10 Rankings

There are some big names coming off IR this week in fantasy football. What’s the latest with Khalil Herbert, Kyler Murray, and Justin Fields?

A trio of talented runners, two QBs and one RB, are getting very close to returning to action this week. Nothing is set in stone, so fantasy football managers are looking for as much information as they can get their hands on to make appropriate sit/start decisions. What is the latest injury news regarding Khalil Herbert, Kyler Murray, and Justin Fields?

What Can We Expect From Khalil Herbert, Justin Fields, and Kyler Murray in Week 10?

    Khalil Herbert, RB, Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears RB Khalil Herbert spent four weeks on IR recovering from an ankle injury. With backup Roschon Johnson also down with injury, the backfield was under the watchful eye of veteran D’Onta Foreman. Herbert has been activated and is eligible to return this week — the Bears play on Thursday against the Carolina Panthers.

It’s unclear if he will play, but signs point to Herbert making his return, as he’s practicing in full this week. If he plays, Carolina is an excellent matchup, allowing the fifth most rushing yards to the position. If the Bears choose to rest him for one more week, fantasy managers can depend on a mix of Foreman, Johnson, and Darrynton Evans.

Herbert is the RB40 in PFN’s consensus rankings for Week 10.

    Kyler Murray, QB, Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals activated Kyler Murray from the reserve/PUP list on Tuesday, and it’s quietly assumed that he will be under center for the Cardinals against the Atlanta Falcons this week. Characteristically cagey head coach Jonathan Gannon said on Monday that if things go well in practice, the team plans to start Murray on Sunday. It would be the first time Murray has played since he tore his ACL in Week 14 of last season.

The plan is for Murray to take first-team reps this week, and without setbacks, he should be good to go. And the Cardinals need him. Rookie Clayton Tune looked far from competent in Week 9 against the Cleveland Browns, failing to score at all.

The Cardinals take on Atlanta this week, and although Murray should have some rust to shake off, considering the status of fantasy QBs in the 2023 season and the four solid QBs that are on a bye this week, Murray could easily find himself in fantasy lineups. He is the QB12 in PFN’s consensus rankings.

    Justin Fields, QB, Chicago Bears

Justin Fields was never placed on IR with his thumb injury, so we will likely see his return in Week 10 after three weeks on the sideline. Rookie Tyson Bagent did his best, but the Bears are in desperate need of Fields’ return to salvage any of the team’s fantasy options. He was just finding his groove before his injury — finishing as the QB3 in Week 4 and QB1 in Week 5.

Fields remains limited in practice, and the team is calling him day to day. If the Bears hold him out another week, it will once again be Bagent under center, and starting any Chicago pass catcher becomes risky. Fields is currently the QB7 in our PFN consensus rankings, assuming he’s active.

Editor’s note: Fields is being listed as doubtful for TNF against the Panthers.
