How Many Grammy Awards Has Kendrick Lamar Won Before Super Bowl 59?

Lamar has received a staggering 57 Grammy Awards nominations, winning 17 of them across his illustrious music career. The rapper received his maiden nomination in 2014 for his second studio album, “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City”, which earned him six more nominations that same year.

However, Lamar won his first Grammy the following year for the song “I”, earning him the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song awards.

Lamar’s best Grammy year, and arguably one of the best of his music career, came in 2018 when his album “Damn” swept all of the rap genre, winning Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video, and Best Rap/Sung Performance that year.

Lamar’s seven Grammys are the third most won by a rapper in history, only behind Ye (24) and Jay-Z (23).

In addition to being the only rapper in history to win a Pulitzer Prize and be nominated for an Academy Award, Lamar’s other achievements include:

    • 29 BET Hip Hop Awards from 36 nominations
    • 11 MTV Video Music Awards from 38 nominations
    • 7 NAACP Image Awards from 20 nominations
    • 6 Billboard Music Awards from 18 nominations
    • 4 American Music Awards from 10 nominations
    • 2 Teen Choice Awards from 9 nominations
    • 2 Soul Train Music Awards from 12 nominations
    • 1 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live)

In addition to Lamar’s magical hits, the Super Bowl 59 halftime show will feature a guest performance from SZA. She is also a Grammy Award-winning artist and is best known for her hits like “Snooze,” which won a Grammy for Best R&B record at last year’s Grammys.

Who Is Performing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 2025?

Jon Batiste, a native of Metairie, La., will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl 59. He is a multi-talented artist who works in the jazz, pop, and R&B genres and has vowed to make sure his performance stands the “test of time.”

Batiste, a five-time Grammy Award-winning artist with 22 nominations, shared his preparations for the national anthem performance in an interview with Entertainment Tonight and said he would finalize his arrangement a week before the Super Bowl.

“I’m excited to figure out an arrangement that will last the test of time, and I look forward to sharing it. The week before is when I’ll just finally start to finalize it and then it’s gonna fly.”

The 38-year-old is fresh off the success of his “Beethoven Blues” album, which earned him his first No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Albums chart; although he has kept a mum, Batiste is likely to pair with Lamar for a small performance during the halftime show.
