Should I Draft Kendre Miller? Saints RB’s Fantasy Outlook in 2023

New Orleans Saints RB Kendre Miller will get a chance to earn work early in the season. Can he develop into a weekly fantasy football starter?

New Orleans Saints RB Kendre Miller racked up over 1,500 yards with TCU last season, production that resulted in the Saints taking him in the third round this April. Alvin Kamara is suspended for the first three games this season, opening the door for the rookie to make an impression in September and work into a viable fantasy football role.

Kendre Miller’s Fantasy Outlook for the 2023 NFL Season

The Kamara suspension means that Miller and Jamaal Williams will handle the backfield work through September, something that gives the rookie projectable volume out of the gate and, thus, the opportunity to impress.

Of course, playing alongside the reigning TD champion of the league comes with a capped ceiling, but Williams saw only 4.4% of his touches last season come through the passing game, leaving the door open for Miller to carve out a niche.

This passing game has a question mark in Michael Thomas, given his recent health issues, and is otherwise loaded with downfield threats. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are true game-wreckers on the perimeter, and even Juwan Johnson posted the fifth-highest aDOT at the tight end position last season.

Is Miller a Good Fantasy Pick?

Given his current asking price, I love the idea of adding Miller. Do I think he performs so well in the first three weeks that the team forgets about Kamara? I don’t, but this is a talented player set to see immediate work in an offense I like. That’s a pretty strong start to a career for a player that was unstoppable in college.

At cost, both Miller and Williams make sense — I want as much cheap exposure to this offense as I can get, and with Kamara showing minor signs of decline last season, there is an avenue to sustained value in this backfield.
