The Los Angeles Chargers have been in dire cap constraints since the dismal ending to their 2023 NFL season.
As a result, there has been speculation that star WR Keenan Allen could be available in a trade. The six-time Pro Bowler has a $34 million cap number this upcoming season and is entering a contract year.
Coming off a 108-catch season, Allen should have plenty of suitors if the Chargers are shopping him, but which teams would be the most interested? We take a look at the top landing spots for Allen.
Which Teams Could Trade for Keenan Allen?
If the Chargers are interested in trading Allen, then they will be making a move before Sunday, March 17 when his $5 million roster bonus is due. The Chargers have already parted ways with their other top wide receiver, Mike Williams, but moving on from Allen could save the team over $23 million according to Over The Cap.
With a deadline coming up on retaining Allen for the 2023 season, a possible trade to recoup value back for the star wide receiver could be in play. Here are three teams in need of wide receiver help that could be interested.
New York Jets
There aren’t many WR-needy teams that have an Aaron Rodgers-type QB like the Jets do.
Gang Green has openly been looking for a wide receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson since the end of the 2023 season — one that did not see one other receiver record over 30 receptions. The need for a quality WR for Rodgers to throw to is massive.
New York could also be in on Allen’s fellow teammate Mike Williams, but the 31-year-old is the more dependable player at an important spot.
New York Giants
The New York Giants have had an excellent offseason outside of the fact that their skill positions are barren to this point. New York solidified their defensive line with the trade for Brian Burns and added some quality depth along the offensive line.
While Big Blue still has very real questions surrounding their quarterback and skill positions, Allen could be the kind of player that helps the Giants compete right away instead of pushing off a rebuild to when they draft a rookie QB in the next few years.
It might take time, but the Giants and Allen make a ton of sense for each other.
New England Patriots
New England is very focused on trying to pry Calvin Ridley away from Jacksonville, but it doesn’t look like that will happen. That will leave the Patriots with a massive vacuum at the receiver position for whoever is taken with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Allen would be the kind of veteran WR who can nurture a young signal-caller the right way. He may not want to go to a team with an unproven QB room, but Allen could make a lot of money and be a part of the next potential run of New England football.
