After an overall WR1 start through the first three weeks of the 2023 NFL season, Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen has cooled off a bit in the four games leading up to the team’s Week 9 matchup against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. Should fantasy football managers consider trading for Allen after his performance against CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner and the Jets? Let’s take a closer look.
Keenan Allen’s Rest-of-Season Outlook
To say Allen is the clear-cut top WR in this Chargers offense for the remainder of this season would be a major understatement. Heading into this contest, Allen has 45 more targets than the next closest pass catcher, which was WR Joshua Palmer who didn’t play in Week 10.
Allen leads the Chargers in every major receiving category, giving him one of the highest weekly floors in terms of volume at the WR position in all of fantasy football. Look no further than his eight receptions for 77 yards against one of the better secondaries in the league.

It is very likely to stay that way because of his formation versatility and lack of other options at the WR and TE position with Palmer on injured reserve for a minimum of the next three weeks.

Should You Trade New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave for Allen?
While Chris Olave certainly has a bit more big-play upside than Allen at their respective points in their careers, Allen’s sheer volume of looks from an elite quarterback makes him a much more reliable fantasy option on a weekly basis than Olave. I would trade Olave for Allen.
Should You Trade Pittsburgh Steelers WR Diontae Johnson for Allen?
It took Diontae Johnson quite a while to find the end zone for the first time in 2023, but he finally found pay dirt against the Tennessee Titans in Week 9. Combine this with Johnson’s seven receptions for 90 yards in that contest, and it presents a sell-high window to get a player in Allen’s tier.

While Johnson’s recent production over the last two weeks is certainly encouraging, I think his fantasy ceiling is a bit lower in the Pittsburgh offense in comparison to Allen’s outlook in the Chargers’ passing game. I would trade Johnson for Allen in fantasy football.
Should You Trade Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown for Allen?
One of the few WRs in the NFL who present a similar fantasy floor on a weekly basis is Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. To give you some perspective of how great St. Brown has been this season, he has twice as many 100-yard receiving games and 10-plus reception games than Allen this season.
While Allen is in a great situation, St. Brown has been better this season.
