Kareem Hunt Injury Update: Chiefs RB Dealing With Quad Issue Ahead of Super Bowl 59

Kareem Hunt was a key player in the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game. He now figures to play an instrumental role in the team’s game plan for its Super Bowl 59 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Hunt was sidelined earlier this season with a quad injury, but the injury has since healed, making him a big cog in the Chiefs’ offense.

    What is Kareem Hunt’s Injury?

Hunt suffered a quad injury in November, 2024, but it has not deterred him from playing. He was listed on the injury report on Wednesday, Feb. 5 with the quad injury, but he was a full participant in practice.

Will Hunt Play In the Super Bowl?

Hunt is expected to dress and perform in his usual capacity in Super Bowl 59. He was listed as a full participant in practice before Kansas City’s matchup with the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.

With Hunt fully participating in practice and able to go full speed, he should be good to go for the Super Bowl.

“That’s why we play the game, is to make it to this stage,” he said from the podium. “I know it’s hard when you don’t get the opportunity to play in the playoffs or come up short.

“Every team — 32 teams — are working to come here to play football in February.”

Hunt told the media on Tuesday, Feb. 4, his contribution to the team’s Super Bowl run is meaningful. He wants to be able to do it for the team that drafted him.

“It’s where it all started,” Hunt said. “I got so much love for the community, for the Chiefs organization, the players, the coaches and honestly, it’s like home.”

How Would Hunt’s Absence Impact the Chiefs?

Isiah Pacheco, who has recovered from a broken fibula he sustained in September, 2024, would become the bell cow for the Chiefs and get most of the carries if Hunt cannot play. Pacheco, who lost his starting role to Hunt, has yet to return to the starting lineup.

Should Hunt fail to suit up, Pacheco would get most of the carries, while AFC Championship Game hero Samaje Perine would get a few snaps here and there. The Chiefs like to use Perine to catch passes out of the backfield and on third downs.

Mahomes will also throw the ball more often if Hunt can’t play. Look for more check downs to Perine and swing passes to the receivers on the edge to open up the passing game for the Chiefs to make up for a lack of running game.
