The Cleveland Browns were dealt a massive blow in the early portion of the 2023 NFL season when they lost starting RB Nick Chubb to a season-ending knee injury. As a result, the organization quickly turned to a familiar face when they decided to bring back veteran RB Kareem Hunt to help stabilize the backfield for the remainder of the year.
After failing to take the leading role from Jerome Ford last season and entering a second consecutive offseason as an unrestricted free agent at the age of 28, what is Hunt’s dynasty fantasy football value heading into the 2024 NFL season?
Kareem Hunt’s Dynasty Outlook
For some dynasty managers who are old enough to recall the start of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Hunt can be considered one of the biggest fantasy what-if stories of the last 10 years.

After his unceremonious departure from the Chiefs, the Browns took a chance on Hunt ahead of the 2019 season, where he and Chubb would form one of the best backfield duos in the NFL for the next four seasons.
The team ultimately decided not to resign the veteran RB ahead of the 2023 campaign, likely because they felt comfortable with Ford and Pierre Strong Jr. as viable complimentary pieces to Chubb.
This changed pretty quickly, though, when Chubb suffered a torn ACL back in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which promptly saw the team sign Hunt to a one-year deal to add some veteran depth to the backfield.
The results weren’t all bad for Hunt, as he scored a career-high nine rushing touchdowns in 2023, but his rushing efficiency dropped to a career-low 3.04 yards per carry (YPC).
Hunt appeared to lack some of the short-area quickness and burst that made him a tackle-breaking machine during his prime years, which could somewhat explain why he underwent sports hernia surgery shortly after the Browns were eliminated from the playoffs.
Ultimately, Hunt’s age and drop in efficiency could explain why he was unable to find a team prior to the start of last season, which makes his fantasy value in dynasty leagues pretty low at the moment.

Should You Trade Hunt in Dynasty?

Hunt’s outlook ahead of the 2024 NFL offseason isn’t exactly full of certainty. He is going to be an unrestricted free agent, will turn 29 this August, and will be competing with a more talented RB market this offseason in order to find work.
The stars aligned almost perfectly for Hunt to be a fantasy producer last year, and the results barely made him a Flex-worthy option in deeper leagues.

If I could get a fourth-round rookie pick or a younger dart throw prospect for Hunt at this time, I would accept that offer. I don’t have very much confidence that the veteran running back will contribute in any meaningful way to any backfield for the 2024 NFL season.
