The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game, with the winner advancing to play in Super Bowl 59.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Co. are coming off a controversial 23-14 win against the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round. On several occasions, the game officials were criticized for being biased toward the Chiefs. Amid criticism from various fans and analysts, Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas dropped a blunt reaction to support from sports analyst Nick Wright.
Kansas City’s Mayor Drops a Blunt Comment Amid Chiefs Cheating Allegations
Mahomes was once again under the spotlight after the Chiefs-Texans matchup, as many fans accused him of getting special treatment from the NFL and its officials.
In the Divisional Round, two calls especially made people furious. One came in the first quarter when Chiefs defensive back Bryan Cook hip-drop tackled Texans tight end Dalton Schultz. In the second play, Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. was flagged for roughing the passer on Mahomes.
Ahead of the AFC Championship Game, a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that “NFL replay assist is expected to expand this offseason into plays that could include the quarterback slide.”
The story was prompted, in part, by Mahomes and the controversial calls during Kansas City’s matchup against the Texans.
Reacting to this, Wright wrote on X, “Listen, I (and basically everyone) like @AdamSchefter. But writing this piece, framing it around Mahomes exclusively, and not including the fact that *the league says both calls were correct & replay wouldn’t have changed either* is simply ludicrous & poor journalism.”
In response to the Fox Sports 1’s analyst’s words, Kansas City’s mayor wrote, “Cook ’em, Nick,” expressing his support for the situation.

Barstool’s Dave Portnoy was also among the most frustrated ones after the Chiefs won. He took X to post the video and ranted:
“This play here is one of the most disgusting plays I’ve ever seen. … Are you kidding me? He doesn’t give himself up. He’s scrambling, cuts back to the field, slides at the last minute, and they call this a flag. Put these refs in prison.”
Portnoy also sent a message to Commissioner Roger Goodell, telling him that nobody was taking him seriously and even calling him a clown. He argued that the penalty should’ve been on Mahomes as he was just running around and not giving himself up.
