Kansas City Man Charged With Stealing $45,000 in Equipment From the Dolphins

In what is a bizarre NFL story, a Kansas City man has been charged after he stole $45,000 worth of equipment from the Miami Dolphins.

A truly odd offseason story has come to light for the Miami Dolphins. On Wednesday, it was reported that the Dolphins are victims of a sizable theft scheme that saw them lose out on several pieces of valuable equipment and team-issued items, just hours following the end of their NFL season.

Man Charged With Stealing $45,000 Worth of Equipment From Dolphins

Just when you think things could not have gone worse for the Dolphins in mid-January, they did.

According to FOX4KC, a Kansas City man is being charged with stealing $45,000 worth of equipment from the Dolphins franchise.

The Jackson County prosecutors charged Joseph Brown Sr. on Wednesday with a class C felony charge of stealing. According to court documents, the Kansas City police responded to a theft that occurred on Jan. 14.

The alleged theft came the day after the Dolphins had their season end to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card round, 26-7.

Officers met with a representative of the Dolphins, who stated that a box truck containing team gear and other equipment was broken into and items were missing.

According to court documents obtained by FOX4KC, the items reportedly stolen included various media equipment, five Pelican cases with media equipment, four large aqua blue colored equipment cases, three large equipment cases, football pads, gloves, shoes, cold weather gear, hockey bags with large “cape” coats inside, as well as game film.

In totality, the items stolen were valued at $46,376.

Luckily for the Dolphins, it has been reported that detectives found surveillance video showing a dark gray four-door truck and identified it as the suspect’s vehicle. Officers later found the suspect vehicle with equipment boxes in the bed that matched the description of the Dolphins’ equipment boxes.

Local officers claim this isn’t the accuser’s first run-in with the law specific to theft. According to court documents, since October 2023, detectives have conducted surveillance at a home regarding Brown’s potential involvement with the thefts of numerous vehicles and trailers in the downtown Kansas City area.

Brown was previously convicted of stealing in 2021 as well. His bond has been set at $50,000 as he awaits trial for the case.

With this falling on the day after a promising season ended for the Dolphins, it was truly a case of adding insult to injury. As the alleged theft awaits trial, it looks as if the Dolphins will be waiting for justice to be served.
