On Sept. 29, the Kansas City Chiefs secured another thrilling 17-10 victory over Jim Harbaugh’s Los Angeles Chargers.
However, one incident left fans worried about the team’s offense for the rest of the season, when a collision occurred between quarterback Patrick Mahomes and wide receiver Rashee Rice.
Rice faced a severe knee injury, making him miss at least the next four weeks. The incident happened when Mahomes collided with Rice while trying to get the ball from Chargers defender Kristian Fulton following an interception.
During a press conference after the game, Mahomes shared his thoughts on the unfortunate event and said: “No, I didn’t notice at the moment; I was more worried about trying to get the ball,” Mahomes said.
“But yeah, obviously, just trying to make a play. It happens when you’re trying to make tackles. When I saw the replay, I felt like s*** that I hit Rashee,” Mahomes said. “I think that’s pretty much all. … I mean, I wasn’t really worried about myself. I was worried about, hopefully, his injury, and hopefully that it wasn’t as bad as it looked because I was the one that hit him.”
Rice is a crucial player for Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s offense; he’s been proving himself on the field with 24 receptions and 288 yards in the first three weeks.
Andy Reid Gives an Update on Rashee Rice’s Injury
After Mahomes, Reid was asked about an update and comeback timeline for Rice’s injury. The Chiefs coach gave fans a highly anticipated statement on the star wide receiver.
Talking about Rice’s injury, Reid said: “We’re getting the swelling out of his knee, and then he’ll have further tests next week, so really don’t have anything to tell you. . . . For his sake, we hope things work out for the best, but let’s see where it goes. Leave it up to the doctors to see. I’m definitely not a doctor.”
At first, it was feared that Rice was suffering from a torn ACL, which would’ve made it impossible for him to return to the field this season. However, a few reports indicated that his ACL injury was ruled out, and his knee is the main area of concern.
With Travis Kelce having a season that might not be one of his best, fans would be hoping for a speedy recovery for Rice.
