The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off the heels of a Super Bowl win last month. Teams that win the big game are typically poached for their parts, and the Chiefs are no different.
Kansas City Chiefs News Today
Former Kansas City punter Tommy Townsend has agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal with the Houston Texans, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Since joining the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2020, Townsend hasn’t missed one game.
Townsend, 27, made the Pro Bowl and was an All-Pro selection in 2022, punting 53 times for 2,672 yards with a 50.4 average yardage. He netted 2,416 yards (45.6 net average) with touchbacks on 7.5% of his punts and 22 punts inside the 20-yard line.
Kansas City also lost offensive guard Nick Allegretti, who is headed to the Washington Commanders on a three-year, $16 million deal with $9.02 million guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Allegretti is set to become the team’s new left guard once the new league year begins.
Allegretti, 27, has been waiting for a regular starting role since his arrival in 2019 as the 216th overall pick of the NFL Draft. In five seasons with the Chiefs, Allegretti has played 74 games and made 13 starts.

Chiefs Re-Signed DT Chris Jones’ Contract Details Emerge
Chris Jones means everything to the Chiefs and their defense. There’s no need to argue about the impact that he’s had on the team’s success against both the running and passing game. As a result, Kansas City awarded Jones with the highest AAV (average annual value) contract for an interior defensive lineman on Saturday.
Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Jones’ new five-year, $158.75 million deal — with an AAV of $31.75 million — will surpass the $31.67 million AAV from Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald’s contract, signed in 2022.
The details include a $30 million signing bonus with $18 million due by April 5 this year and another $12 million due by April 5, 2025. He’ll receive a base contract of $1.25 million fully guaranteed in 2024. Jones will have a 2024 offseason workout bonus of $100,000 — each season includes that same bonus.
In 2025, Jones will earn a roster bonus of $15 million that’s fully guaranteed at signing and a 2025 $13.75 million salary, also guaranteed.
Likewise, 2026 has a ton of large figures for Jones, including a $16 million roster bonus that is fully guaranteed by the third day of the 2025 league year. He’ll also earn a $19 million base salary, guaranteed on that same day.
Jones is set to earn $28.25 million with $3 million guaranteed on the third day of the 2027 league year.
