Like clockwork, the Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champions and have the No. 32 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Where could they spend that draft capital, and will Rashee Rice’s legal troubles play into their decision?

WR Rashee Rice Could Be Facing Multi-Game Suspension
It’s fair to say that the Chiefs are waiting to see what happens with Rice, their second-year WR, who was involved in a multi-car crash in Dallas. He has since turned himself into the police. ESPN’s Adam Schefter expects that Rice’s potential suspension levied by the NFL could be multiple games.
“Rashee Rice’s looming legal issues and potential NFL discipline could push the Chiefs to look even harder at a wide receiver early in this draft,” Schefter wrote. “Rice is facing eight charges after he and another driver of a speeding car allegedly caused a crash involving a half-dozen vehicles on a Dallas highway last month.
“He is facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury. He turned himself into police last week at the Regional Jail in DeSoto, Texas, before being released on bond. On top of the legal issues and lawsuit he is facing, Rice is expected to be disciplined by the NFL, resulting in at least a multi-game suspension.”

NFL Draft Analyst Has Chiefs Selecting WR in Latest Mock Draft
As for the Chiefs’ draft plans, Kansas City certainly would need receiver help if Rice was suspended. Even if he isn’t, another player that complements Rice and the newly signed Hollywood Brown makes for a strong trio.
Pro Football Network’s Tony Catalina mocked Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman to Kansas City with the No. 32 overall pick.
“Keon Coleman is big and physical and attacks the football,” Catalina wrote. “Adding the FSU wide receiver to Patrick Mahomes’ arsenal will be a big deal. The productive pass catcher should fit right into their offensive style and add a dangerous weapon to a group looking for consistent WR play.”
Coleman had 50 receptions for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns in his lone season with Florida State. Before that, he had 65 receptions, 848 yards, and eight touchdowns in two years with Michigan State.

Kansas City Bolsters Defense in Mock Draft
The Chiefs have two more selections in Catalina’s mock draft: Nos. 64 and 95.
Catalina has the team continuing the Florida State connection by selecting defensive tackle Braden Friske with the team’s second-round pick.
Friske played four seasons at Western Michigan before transferring to FSU for the 2023 season. He compiled 191 tackles (93 solo), 36 tackles for loss, 19.5 sacks, three pass deflections, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in five seasons.
The second selection is Miami safety James Williams. While playing defensive back during his career with the Hurricanes, Williams generated 162 tackles (106 solo), two tackles for loss, four interceptions, and 13 pass deflections with three forced fumbles and as many fumble recoveries in three seasons.

Royals Star Gives Opinion on Chiefs Draft Pick
One Kansas City athlete gave their opinion on who the Chiefs should draft. Kansas City Royals star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. suggested that the Super Bowl champions select a receiver, per the Kansas City Star’s Jaylon Thompson.
“I think they are going after one of those receivers,” Witt said. “I’ve grown up an Oklahoma Sooners fan and watching those dudes from Texas, Xavier Worthy, I think one of those speedster guys to add to (new Chiefs receiver) Hollywood Brown would be nice.”
