Kamari Lassiter is a terrific athlete at the cornerback position who was part of an incredible era in Georgia football history.
At 6’0”, 180 pounds, Lassiter doesn’t necessarily possess elite size for the position, and he also doesn’t have elite speed. He is a solid, fundamental football player who overcame not being a big-time recruit to be a very good player in the SEC.
At only 21 years old, he is still a young prospect with a ton of time to develop.
Let’s dive into Lassiter’s journey with the former Georgia defensive back entering the NFL.
Where Did Kamari Lassiter’s Football Career Start?
Lassiter played his high school football at American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Lassiter was a four-sport athlete in high school, as he played football, basketball, baseball, and track. However, it was on the football field where he really starred.

Lassiter played on both sides of the ball. During his high school career, he had 210 tackles, 10 interceptions, and four fumbles. He was also great as a wide receiver, as he finished with 2,488 receiving yards and 35 touchdowns.
A four-star recruit, Lassiter chose Georgia over other schools such as Alabama, Clemson, LSU, and Oklahoma, among many others.
Revisiting Lassiter’s College Career
Lassiter was able to come in and contribute quickly at Georgia, which is not an easy feat to accomplish. As a freshman, he played in all 15 games as a reserve defensive back and on special teams. He finished the year with 11 tackles and his lone collegiate interception.
In his sophomore year, Lassiter became a starter as a defensive back and was a key contributor on a team that won its second consecutive national title. He finished that season with 38 tackles.

Lassiter was named second-team All-SEC after finishing with 37 tackles in 2023. He started every game this year for Georgia, and he led the team with eight pass breakups.
Lassiter’s Potential in the NFL
The first thing that sticks out is his instincts at the cornerback position. Lassiter does very well playing man or zone and does a tremendous job of keeping leverage and passing receivers off based on the defense.
Lassiter is a versatile corner who can play in any kind of defense, but some scouts are worried about what he can become.
Pro Football Network draft analyst Ian Cummings does think Lassiter will be able to overcome a lack of elite size and speed because of his feel for the game.
“Lassiter isn’t an overwhelming size threat, and he doesn’t quite have elite size-adjusted athleticism,” Cummings said. “But with Lassiter, there’s a very sound confluence of natural talent and intangible strength, and that combination should help him thrive at the NFL level.”

Another big strength of Lassiter’s is that he isn’t afraid to be involved when it comes to stopping the run.
Cummings said he is a “relentless support defender who explodes downhill with unhinged tenacity and zeal.”
Whether Lassiter continues to become more of a big-play threat will play a huge role in where he goes. He had only one interception during his collegiate career despite having some opportunities to make the big play.
