The conversation surrounding Justin Jefferson and his future with the Minnesota Vikings has been a long one. Every day that the star wide receiver isn’t locked in with a new long-term contract will invite discourse about his standing with the organization moving forward.
With the recent decision for starting quarterback Kirk Cousins to head to Atlanta to join the Falcons, the conversation regarding Jefferson and the team’s plans for him has once again been brought up. Despite the change of quarterback coming in 2024, the team is standing still on their stance to keep Jefferson for the future and the latest report reaffirms that.
NFL Insider Provides Update on Justin Jefferson’s Future
Eventually, the Vikings star wide receiver is going to get a much-deserved contract extension that is expected to set or be near the top of the market for his position. The question around the league, however, was if it was going to be with the Vikings or another team.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini once again put any confusion to rest — the Vikings made it clear what their plans for Jefferson as a member of the organization are.
“The Vikings came close to extending WR Justin Jefferson last offseason. In Indy, GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah aggressively rejected the idea of trading the star. Kirk Cousins’ departure hasn’t changed things. The Vikings have no plans to trade Jefferson, sources tell me and
@alec_lewis.”
This is a question that has been asked several times both publicly and privately over the last year or so. Each time when given the chance to speak about Jefferson and his standing with the team, the Vikings GM has made it clear they intend to keep the star WR.
Despite the team needing to go back to the drawing board when it comes to the QB room, it has been unwavering in its stance to keep Jefferson in the fold for years to come.
Jefferson has eclipsed over 1,000 yards and at least five touchdowns in every season since he has been in the NFL. With other wide receivers like the Dallas Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb expected to get a new deal soon that is worth monitoring, Jefferson and his representation are expected to see him command quite the financial gain shortly as well.
