Joshua Dobbs Keeps Minnesota Vikings’ Playoff Hopes Alive Five Days After Joining Team

Just five days after joining the team, Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs led Minnesota to a miraculous win over the Falcons Sunday.

The Minnesota Vikings seemed to have made a good choice in trading for quarterback Joshua Dobbs.

The QB led the way for a Vikings win against the Atlanta Falcons in a game that came down to the final minutes Sunday. Stepping in for an injured Jaren Hall, Dobbs shined in the starting role.

In his first start for the team, Hall took a big hit near the goal line in the first quarter, so in came Dobbs.

Dobbs started the season with the Arizona Cardinals and was traded to the Vikings after Kirk Cousins suffered an Achilles tear in the Week 8 matchup against the Green Bay Packers and was ruled out for the rest of the season. Dobbs is on his fifth team since the start of the 2022 season.

Hall was ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion, and Dobbs got off to a rough start in his place.

His first drive came at the start of the second quarter and ended in a safety. He then fumbled and lost possession of the ball on his next drive.

On his third drive, Dobbs led the team down the field and hit Alexander Mattison on a two-yard touchdown pass to put the Vikings down by one point.

Dobbs fumbled again to start the second half, but he did not let that deter him. The team matched an Atlanta field goal to remain in a one-point deficit. The Falcons scored a touchdown on their next possession, but the Vikings would later answer as Dobbs used his legs and ran 18 yards to the end zone.

Dobbs found Trishton Jackson on a successful two-point conversion to tie the game at 21. The Vikings took the lead with a field goal, but Atlanta scored again to go up four points with 2:08 left.

Dobbs then led a heroic drive down the field to win the game and keep the Vikings’ playoff hopes alive as they moved to 5-4.

The winning drive ended with Dobbs scrambling for a key first down and then finding Brandon Powell for a six-yard touchdown with 22 seconds remaining, earning the 31-28 lead.

The Vikings were able to take home the win under their fourth-string quarterback and with the absence of star left tackle Christian Darrisaw and receivers K.J. Osborn and Justin Jefferson.

Dobbs finished with 158 yards and two touchdowns while completing 66.7% of his passes.

The win is symbolic for the team as they look to keep pushing ahead in the absence of Cousins. The Vikings have won four straight and are now 5-4 with a matchup against the New Orleans Saints on the horizon.
