After a fourth playoff exit at the hands of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, Josh Allen and Sean McDermott have to be feeling the lowest they’ve ever felt. However, Allen remained sportsmanlike and classy as ever while crediting the Buffalo Bills head coach for the team’s success in 2024.
Josh Allen Reassures Bills Fans of Sean McDermott’s Commitment to Winning
Speaking to reporters in Buffalo, Allen poured his heart out about McDermott.
While the head coach has faced criticism after another postseason loss, the 28-year-old quarterback said that he is “extremely confident” that McDermott can lead the Bills to a Super Bowl victory. He also praised his head coach’s work ethic and made it clear he supports him.
“This is going to sound weird, but I’m just so proud of coach,” Allen told the media. “I don’t know why he’s not recognized more in the award stuff. That’s the cruddy thing about it. But time in and time out he’s got us in position… we’re fighting to get over that hump and he gives his life to this…
“He is so committed to doing whatever it takes. And to see him adapt and really grow as a coach has been fun to watch… He has let players be them and given us the keys… it’s not easy to do that… I respect the hell out of coach.”

Allen and McDermott have together won 78 games over the past six seasons for the Bills. However, wins at the biggest stages continue to elude the franchise. They got back to the AFC Championship stage for the first time since 2020 only to lose in agonizing fashion once again.
It is clear that these two rosters match up extremely closely, even with injury-enforced absences. Kansas City barely have a 245-240 scoring edge in nine contests between Mahomes and Allen. Three of the Chiefs’ four playoff wins against Allen and Co have come by a single-score margin.
The law of averages dictates that if Allen and his Bills can maintain their level of play, they should be able to get over the hump sooner or later. Allen is clearly just as capable of playing error-free football as Mahomes is.
However, football is a game of inches, and sometimes the chips don’t fall the way teams intend them to. With the correct spotting on their 3rd and 4th down plays in the 4th quarter on Championship Sunday, Buffalo could have been looking at a different outcome to the game.
