Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson Tale of the Tape: Which MVP Favorite Has the Edge in Height, Weight, 40 Time, More

The 2024-2025 MVP race has been defined by two players, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. The All-Pro quarterbacks have carried their respective teams to the AFC Divisional Round, electrifying fans and delivering MVP-caliber seasons.

Jackson and Allen, known for their ability to make plays with their legs and athleticism, are different. Whether they are scrambling out of the pocket and completing a pass or running for a long touchdown that only some running backs can pull off, they are two must-watch players who can carry their teams to victory.

Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson: Stats

Allen and Jackson were drafted by the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens, respectively, in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft and have become the faces of their franchises. The Bills drafted Allen out of Wyoming with the No. 7 overall pick, while Jackson was the 32nd and final selection of Night 1.

Both players have had phenomenal 2024 seasons, but which has the advantage in stats, height, weight, and speed?

These quarterbacks have faced each other four times, drawing even at 2-2.

Allen and Jackson first faced off as starters in 2019, when Baltimore defeated Buffalo 24-17. Then, in 2021, the two superstars competed in the AFC Divisional Round, with Allen and the Bills capturing a 17-3 victory. Allen captured another win in 2022, defeating Jackson and the Ravens 23-20.

Jackson finally got back in the win column earlier this season, beating Allen and the Bills 35-10 in Week 4. In that game, Allen completed 16 of 29 passes for 180 yards, rushing for 21. He threw no touchdowns or interceptions but did lose a fumble.

Jackson only threw 18 passes, completing 13 of them, two of which went for touchdowns. He also ran for 54 yards and another touchdown.

During the regular season, Allen threw for 3,731 passing yards with 28 touchdowns and six interceptions. He added 102 carries for 531 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.

Jackson threw for 4,172 passing yards with 41 touchdowns and four interceptions, along with 139 carries for 915 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Allen vs. Jackson: Height, Weight, and Speed

Allen has the height advantage between the two, standing at 6’5″, while Jackson is 6’2″. Furthermore, Allen is among the taller NFL quarterbacks, along with Trevor Lawrence and Justin Herbert.

The Buffalo QB also weighs more than Jackson. At 237 pounds compared to Jackson’s 205, Allen uses his size to his advantage when he runs. Striding like a gazelle, he bullies defenders along the way to sizeable and impressive runs. Jackson, meanwhile, uses his slimmer frame to evade defenders and reach uncatchable speeds in the open field.

At the 2018 NFL Combine, Allen ran faster the majority of quarterbacks with a 4.75-second 40-yard dash — but not quite as fast as Jackson.

Allen’s size and ability to run over defenders as a quarterback are unmatched, but out in space, the Ravens’ QB has the advantage.

While at the University of Louisville, Jackson ran an unofficial 4.34-second 40-yard dash during his “Speed Day.” He didn’t compete in the 40-yard dash during the NFL Combine nor at his Pro Day, but Jackson’s “Speed Day” time would be the second-fastest 40-yard dash of all time for a quarterback, behind only Michael Vick at 4.33 seconds.
