Josh Allen Injury Update: Bills QB Gets X-Rays Following Victory over Giants

    Published on

Bills quarterback Josh Allen was taken to the X-ray room following Buffalo's victory over the Giants. Here's the latest on what we know.

Following the victory over the New York Giants, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was seen walking to the X-ray room at Highmark Stadium with head athletic trainer Nate Breske, according to multiple reports from Bills beat reporters. Here’s the latest on what we know at this time.

Josh Allen Injures Shoulder in Second Quarter

Allen had fallen on his shoulder several times throughout the game after being tackled by Giants defenders. In his postgame press conference, Allen confirmed that this was the reason why he got an X-ray and that it was, in fact, for his throwing shoulder. He described the visit as intended for the training staff to get images of his shoulder.

Allen also told reporters that the injury occurred in the second quarter and that he played the second half without any issues. He added that the X-rays did not show anything concerning.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said all scans on Allen were normal so far and that “things are heading in a good direction.”

Allen was brutalized throughout the night, sustaining several hits, including one that required a trip to the Bills’ blue medical tent. The team’s medical staff checked Allen out for a possible concussion as his head hit the turf, but he was cleared and returned to the game.

Following one particular hit, as shown in the post above, replays show the Bills QB grabbing his right arm and elbow area. In fact, Allen confirmed to reporters that this was the play right before the one that caused him to come out of the game for a concussion check.

Allen injured his arm last season, leading to an adjustment in his throwing motion. It’s unclear if this injury is a reaggravation of that one.

Allen finished the game 19 of 30 for 169 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. On the season, Allen is 128 of 175 with 1,407 yards, 11 TDs, and five INTs.

    Fantasy Impact of Allen’s Injury

It was unclear exactly what happened to Allen’s shoulder. While he certainly didn’t play his best, I wouldn’t attribute his struggles to the apparent injury.

After a string of five weeks scoring at least 22 fantasy points, Allen’s 14.86 marked his lowest since Week 1.

Assuming he’s OK, he should bounce back nicely against a Patriots team that looks like the worst in the league. If Allen can’t play, it would be Kyle Allen making his third start in the last three seasons.

Kyle Allen is competent enough to keep Stefon Diggs alive, but all Bills fantasy options would suffer a massive downgrade if Josh can’t play.
