Josh Allen Injury Update: Latest News Surrounding Bills QB

    Published on

What happened to Bills QB Josh Allen in Week 1? Here's why Buffalo's signal-caller had a wrap on his hand on Sunday.

While Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen remained in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals after suffering a potential injury, he was sporting a large wrap on his left wrist in the fourth quarter.

What happened to Allen in Week 1, and what’s the latest on the Bills’ superstar QB?

    Josh Allen Injury Update

Buffalo’s athletic training staff examined Allen’s left hand in the fourth quarter. Eventually, the Bills put a hefty wrap around Allen’s left hand and wrist area.

While backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was warming up along Buffalo’s sideline, Allen was able to return to the game. He never missed an offensive snap.

Allen completed 18 of 23 attempts for 232 yards and two touchdowns in the Bills’ 34-28 win. He was also Buffalo’s second-leading rusher, adding 41 yards and two more scores on eight carries.

Trubisky battled a knee injury during the summer and was limited to begin Week 1’s practices but suited up for Sunday’s game. The Bills signed former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets quarterback Mike White to their practice earlier this month.

After Buffalo’s victory, Allen said his hand was “fine” but admitted that he would likely undergo X-rays.

On Monday, head coach Sean McDermott said Allen had been cleared to face the Miami Dolphins in Week 2.

Allen was a full practice participant for Monday and Tuesday’s practices and remains on track to play on Thursday Night Football.

    Josh Allen Fantasy Analysis

Bills OC Joe Brady rode Josh Allen in a significant way after he took over in Week 11 of last season, and nothing in the 2024 season opener suggests that will change any time soon.

You can question Allen’s stable of pass catchers all you want (at the time of this injury, no Bill had even five targets), but his fantasy value hinges on his ability to produce with his legs, and a tape job isn’t nearly enough to slow down this machine.

You can take the weapons away from Josh Allen, but you can’t take the Josh Allen out of Josh Allen. His style of play is going to result in bruises like this, but as long as he’s active, he’s to be labeled as nothing short of an elite fantasy asset.
