Jordan Mailata’s Contract Details: Eagles Extend Left Tackle Through 2028 Season

    Published on

Jordan Mailata's new contract not only keeps the Eagles' offensive line intact, but it gives him a significant raise as one of the league's best young tackles.

The Philadelphia Eagles entered the month of April with over $30 million in salary cap space following a strong free agency period. Now, the organization is focused on re-signing some of their proven talents at premium positions of value.

Philadelphia and starting left tackle Jordan Mailata agreed to a three-year extension that will keep the former Rugby star with the Eagles through the 2028 season, as first reported by Adam Schefter.

Mailata, formerly a seventh-round pick from Australia, has gone from a moldable project to one of the highest-paid tackles in the game once again.

Let’s break down what the contract looks like for both sides and what the Eagles’ offensive line will look like in 2024.

Breaking Down Jordan Mailata’s Contract Extension

As first reported by Schefter, Mailata’s three-year extension is worth $66 million with $48 million in guaranteed money. Mailata will also receive a $20 million signing bonus as part of the deal.

The former 2018 seventh-round draft pick, who never played football until being selected by the Eagles, was entering the second to last year on a previous extension signed in 2021 worth $64 million.

Mailata was previously the 10th-highest-paid left tackle in the game despite being one of the highest-rated players at his position. The new deal will pay him an average of $22 million, which is the fourth-highest average annual salary for left tackles, behind Andrew Thomas, Trent Williams, and Laremy Tunsil.

While he has never made a Pro Bowl, Mailata’s elite Pro Football Focus grade of 84.1 in 2023 ranked among the best at his position.

He is also the second offensive lineman to receive an extension by the Eagles this offseason.

Back on the first day of free agency, the Eagles locked up Mailata’s left-side partner Landon Dickerson to a four-year, $84 million deal. Both Dickerson and Mailata are now among the highest-paid players at their position and continue to hold down the fort along the left side of the offensive line.

    Eagles’ Offensive Line Depth Chart

At just 27 years old, Mailata is still considered one of the young stars in the NFL at his position. Even more impressive is the fact that the Eagles were able to take a player as raw as him and still find a way to build him into one of the league’s best.

They’ll need him to be even better in 2024 after some of their recent offseason changes.

With the retirement of center Jason Kelce, the offensive line is set to miss a major leader in the locker room. While All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson remains with the team, Mailata and Dickerson will be called upon to be more vocal and dominant on the field following Kelce’s loss.

For the time being, here’s how the 2024 offensive line expects to look for the Eagles:

Mailata and Dickerson are expected and paid to hold down the fort in droves as the organization figures out what they will do at the right guard position for the new season. At the very least, the Australian phenom has shown enough to warrant being paid among the top players at his position.

Now, he just needs to continue on that career path.
