Texas RB and emergent 2024 NFL Draft prospect Jonathon Brooks suffered an apparent ankle injury in Week 11 against the TCU Horned Frogs. Here’s the latest on his status.
Jonathon Brooks Injury Update: Latest on Status of Texas RB
In the fourth quarter of Texas’ Week 11 contest against the TCU Horned Frogs, running back Jonathon Brooks suffered an ankle injury and was taken out of the game.
Brooks had to be helped off the field by trainers and struggled to put any weight on his ankle. He was taken to the tent for further evaluation.

Up to that point in the game, Brooks had run for 104 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries, and he’d also caught three passes for 74 yards.
If Brooks is out for the foreseeable future, it would be a big loss for Texas, and it would also potentially accelerate Brooks’ timeline on a decision for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Brooks is only a redshirt sophomore, but he’s put together a strong case to declare early and enter the early-round conversation at the RB position. There’s no runaway RB1 in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the situation is ripe for Brooks to rise up the board.
Heading into Texas’ Week 11 game against TCU, Brooks had amassed 1,035 yards and eight touchdowns on 166 carries while also adding 22 catches for 212 yards and a score through the air.
At 6’0″, 207 pounds, Brooks isn’t quite as big as his predecessor, Bijan Robinson, but Brooks would have a chance to follow Robinson as the first RB selected in his respective class if he were to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Brooks has exceptional explosiveness and agility, to go along with sharp vision both at the line and at the second level. He’s a well-rounded back whose natural running ability is made more potent by his quickness and malleability.
At this time, the severity of Brooks’ ankle injury is not known.
