Where Is Jonathan Taylor Playing This Season? A Look at the Betting Odds

    Published on

Jonathan Taylor has been given permission to seek a trade. Who are the betting favorites to trade for him? We take a look at the betting odds.

Yesterday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Indianapolis Colts gave their star running back Jonathan Taylor permission to seek a trade.

This comes after a contract dispute with the organization, as Taylor is eligible for a contract extension and wants to be rewarded with a new deal. Indianapolis, however, hasn’t shown any interest in giving Taylor an extension, as teams have become increasingly resistant toward paying running backs.

Where Will Jonathan Taylor Play This Season?

DraftKings Sportsbook this morning released betting odds on which team Taylor will be taking his first regular-season snap for this season, if not the Colts.

The Miami Dolphins being the favorites to trade for Taylor makes a lot of sense. They were heavily linked to Dalvin Cook before he signed with the Jets and have one of the thinnest running back rooms in the NFL.

Rookie third-round pick De’Von Achane also left last week’s preseason game with a shoulder injury and is currently week-to-week.

The Dolphins have shown no hesitation in giving up premium picks for star players after trading first-round picks for Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb, but will they do it again for the third year in a row?

The Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, and Dallas Cowboys round out the top five in odds to land Taylor. The Bears make the most sense of this group as RB Khalil Herbert might not be ready to be the lead back in Chicago, and they have the most draft capital from trading out of the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

But do they feel they have enough of a need at running back to meet the Colts’ asking price of compensation equal to a first-round pick?

The Cowboys being just +750 to trade for Taylor is very interesting. Tony Pollard has never been a lead back before, and adding Taylor would give Dallas the best RB duo in the NFL.

But Pollard is playing on the franchise tag, and Taylor is only on the trade block because he wants a new contract. There’s no way the Cowboys would pay both, right? If there’s any owner who would, though, it’s Jerry Jones.

As the league continues to devalue the RB position, it seems unlikely we see Taylor get traded any time soon. Taylor is one of the best running backs in the NFL, however, just two seasons removed from rushing for over 1,800 yards and 18 touchdowns, and is only 24 years old.
