John Metchie III Dynasty Profile: Fantasy Outlook, Value, Projections, and Rankings

After missing his rookie season due to leukemia, what does John Metchie III's future look like, and what is his value in dynasty fantasy football leagues?

As we inch toward the new season, the ever-changing NFL landscape has player fantasy values constantly on the move. Whether you’re used to the dynasty platform or are still learning the rules, let’s dive into the latest dynasty fantasy football value of John Metchie III.

John Metchie III’s Dynasty Outlook and Value

The best hope for fantasy value in the Texans’ WR corps is probably a rookie. The second best hope is Metchie.

The Texans drafted Metchie in the second round of last year’s draft. Coming off a torn ACL, he was never going to make an immediate impact, but he was expected to get involved by midseason.

Unfortunately, Metchie’s rookie campaign ended before it began due to a leukemia diagnosis. It goes without saying that Metchie’s health is first and foremost. Fortunately, it sounds like he’s fully recovered and prepared to make his NFL debut in 2023. The question now is, what can we expect from him?

Metchie profiles as more of a possession receiver. He would undoubtedly benefit from the Texans upgrading at quarterback. Developing rapport and timing with their new QB will be paramount to Metchie’s potential success.

It’s entirely possible that rapport already exists with the Texans’ future quarterback. Suffice it to say the ideal rookie for them to draft from Metchie’s perspective would be Bryce Young, his teammate at Alabama.

    John Metchie III’s Fantasy Ranking

Ultimately, Metchie is a bit of a wild card. I don’t see a very high ceiling for him. He doesn’t profile as a WR1 at the NFL level, but he could be a solid WR2 and also a fantasy WR2/3 if things break right.

Dynasty managers with Metchie should probably hang onto him and see if anything is there. You always want to maximize value, which means trading away bad assets and acquiring good ones, but I don’t like making moves just for the sake of making moves.

We really don’t know what we’re going to get from Metchie. What we do know is we couldn’t ask for an easier depth chart to climb. As such, if I had Metchie, I would prefer to give him a chance to be a WR2/3 for my fantasy team as opposed to trading him away just to throw a dart at someone else.

We currently have Metchie at WR68 (No. 166 overall) in our dynasty Superflex rankings. He’s not someone I’m overly excited about, but there are certainly worse shots to take at that price in dynasty startup drafts.
