Analyst Takes Shedeur Sanders Over Cam Ward as No. 1 QB Pick in NFL Draft 2025

College football insider Joel Klatt believes that Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is the No. 1 QB available in the 2025 NFL Draft.

College football insider Joel Klatt would pick Colorado Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders over Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward in the 2025 NFL Draft. While discussing his top five quarterbacks available in the upcoming draft, Klatt outlined how Sanders is a “phenomenal player” who has skills that will easily translate to the National Football League.

The players ranked behind Sanders in Klatt’s 2025 NFL Draft top five QB list are, in order, Ward, Ole Miss Rebels Jaxson Dart, Alabama Crimson Tide Jalen Milroe, and Ohio State Buckeyes Will Howard.

Joel Klatt Believes Shedeur Sanders is the QB1

Klatt detailed how he saw Sanders as the best quarterback available in this draft class. He made these claims on ‘The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast’. The video was posted in full on the account’s official YouTube page.

“My number one quarterback available in this year’s NFL Draft is Shedeur Sanders from Colorado. Shedeur is excellent. I think he is a phenomenal player… He is equal parts surgeon and artist and that’s one of the reasons why I love his game and I think it’s translatable to the National Football League.

When he needs to be, he can be a surgeon and he can sit in the pocket and just dice people up and he anticipates as well as anybody in this draft. He’s hyper accurate, so he’s got that ability to just be the prototypical pocket guy dicing you up down the field… He’s got this ability to be an artist. Shedeur does an amazing job of creating when things aren’t there,” Klatt stated.

In Pro Football and Sports Network’s latest 7-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Sanders was selected No. 2 overall by the Cleveland Browns.

“Sanders is a promising NFL prospect. He is a pocket passer with enough mobility to make him effective. There are concerns about his arm strength, but he mitigates those with his compact release and impressive accuracy. Those mechanics can hide concerns when pressured, which is a concern with the Browns’ offensive line ranking 20th last season.”

Despite Klatt labelling him the No. 1 QB available, PFSN analyst Ben Rolfe had Sanders as the No. 2 QB taken off the board. Instead, Ward was the first quarterback chosen, going No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans.

Elsewhere in that same mock draft, the other players listed in Klatt’s top five were all selected within the first four rounds. Milroe went No. 52 overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dart was picked No. 65 overall by the New York Giants, and Howard was selected No. 115 overall by the Miami Dolphins.
