There certainly is no love lost between Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers.
The 49ers made a big move this week that had the entire NFL talking. The 49ers traded 2021 No. 3 overall pick quarterback Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 draft. The move signaled the end of a bizarre era for Lance and the team, and Jimmy G had a front-row seat for all of it and had his own take on the matter.

Garoppolo was trying not to say too much while inadvertently saying it all at the same time. When asked what he thought of the trade, Garoppolo said candidly, “Weird situation … been a lot of weird situations over there in San Francisco … just leave it at that.”
When Garoppolo was asked a follow-up question regarding how he feels San Francisco has handled “those situations,” Jimmy G snapped back after a momentary pause to say, “How do you think they handled them?”
One thing is clear: Garoppolo is obviously not happy with the way things transpired during his time with the 49ers, and while Jimmy G is in a new chapter of his career in Las Vegas, this is something that surely still does not sit right with him to this day.
Jimmy Garoppolo Moving on From 49ers Tenure
While it looks like he may not be completely moved on, Jimmy G has been given a fresh start elsewhere with a familiar face. As a member of the Raiders, Garoppolo is reunited with his former offensive coordinator from his time with the New England Patriots in current Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels.
There is real familiarity between the two, and when it was evident that Garoppolo was no longer going to be a member of the 49ers franchise, many looked at the Raiders as the perfect landing spot for the veteran quarterback.
Garoppolo can put his career back on track and do the same for the Raiders organization. When healthy, he is one of the more steady quarterbacks in the league and has proven able to control an offense while not necessarily needing to be the focal point of the unit.
No coach knows his strengths better than McDaniels, and with the coach having his back on the wall in 2023 as well, it is the familiarity between the two that they hope can propel them forward this season.
