Jim Harbaugh didn’t take long to “bolt up” in his first words since being named Los Angeles Chargers head coach.
One viral social media video released Monday signified the new head coach’s stirring early vision and electrified Charger fans in the process.
“It Just Felt Like Home When I Came Here” Among Jim Harbaugh’s Words
Harbaugh heads back to the NFL as a national championship-winning head coach, securing college football’s most coveted prize on Jan. 8 with the Michigan Wolverines.
He spent a decade away from pro football coaching by building back his alma mater into a national title contender. But now, Harbaugh feels newly energized about the new task he’s taking on in LA.
“It just felt like home when I came here,” Harbaugh says in the video released by the Chargers. “I know the universe is big. The football universe is [also] big. It’s really not that big. Every job I’ve taken, at every step of the way in coaching, there was a connection there for me.”
Harbaugh’s connection to the Chargers goes back to his final two seasons as an NFL quarterback. He spent the twilight years of his signal-caller career playing for the franchise — although during a time they were in San Diego.
The video showed highlights of Harbaugh’s Chargers moments. He threw for 4,177 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions and went 6-11 as a starter for the Bolts before calling it a career.
“Coming back to the Chargers, the sincerity was there,” Harbaugh said before sharing how he felt at “home” in taking over the head coaching job.
Harbaugh Fires Off Early Strong Message
Harbaugh will get his first crack at turning around a franchise that fell to 5-12 overall last season and fired Brandon Staley with just three regular-season games left.
Right away, he outlined the vision for his first Bolts team, which provided a spark for fans who watched the video.
“There’s going to be ignitors,” Harbaugh began. “There’s going to be leaders by example.”
Then came the vision Harbaugh has for future Chargers opponents.
“We’re going to attack ’em — with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind,” Harbaugh said.
He generated fan interest on the Bolts’ side with his video.
“Greatest thing this franchise has done… maybe ever,” one fan posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“AHHH WE ARE SO BACK,” one Chargers fan posted.
One more fan said on X, “I get chills watching this. Literal chills.” That same fan added, “All Chargers fans should be required to watch this at least ten times.”
Even a Michigan fan sent praise to Charger fans about seeing Harbaugh take over.
“Congrats! You guys got a great one. He’ll treat you guys very well,” the Wolverines fan said.
Harbaugh will now have his fifth different football team to coach. But from the sound of his voice, the 60-year-old is content where he is now.
