Jevon Holland Injury Update: Miami Dolphins Safety in Danger of Missing Patriots Game

Safety Jevon Holland is the latest Miami Dolphins starter in danger of missing time due to injury.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The friendly fire collision among Miami Dolphins defenders in Week 7 could keep one of them from playing in Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots — just not the one most expected.

Safety Jevon Holland reported concussion symptoms Monday and is in the protocol, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Monday — which was surprising news, considering Holland returned to the game and missed a grand total of four snaps Sunday night.

Holland made helmet-to-helmet contact with teammate David Long Jr., who underwent a thorough neuro evaluation in the locker room and never returned to action.

McDaniel told reporters Monday that Long actually never was diagnosed with a concussion, but by the time he got the green light from doctors, it was too late to put him back in the game.

Miami Dolphins’ Jevon Holland in Concussion Protocol

McDaniel revealed Holland’s medical issue late in a wide-ranging news conference here Monday.

“So Jevon, he was cleared in the game, which is why he went back — by the [unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant] — into the game,” McDaniel said. “And then the standard procedure for, that is the following day, you have a follow-up, and in that, he did report symptoms, so he will be in the concussion protocol, which is something that we will work through and just worry about getting him healthy.”

This is the second time in 10 months that a Dolphins player has finished a game with an undetected concussion.

Tua Tagovailoa suffered his second diagnosed concussion of the 2022 season on Christmas Day but didn’t develop symptoms until the following day.

If Holland cannot play this Sunday against the Patriots, expect Brandon Jones to start alongside DeShon Elliott in the Dolphins’ secondary. Holland must meet multiple benchmarks to be allowed to play.

    • Two other quick injury updates: Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (back) is expected to practice this week, but OL Isaiah Wynn (quad) is likely to miss multiple weeks.
